The wartime commander of Bosnian Croat forces, Slobodan Praljak, has died after he drank a liquid he said was poison seconds after UN judges turned down his appeal against a 20-year sentence for war crimes against Bosnian Muslims, a court spokesman confirms.
Praljak, 72, tilted back his head and took a swig from a bottle shortly after appeals judges confirmed his sentence for involvement in a campaign to drive Muslims out of a would-be Bosnian Croat ministate in Bosnia in the early 1990s.
"I just drank poison," he said.
"I am not a war criminal. I oppose this conviction."

Why is “poison” in quotes in the title. Since it killed him, I would say that is proof.
Does anyone remember Budd Dwyer?
Ping.
I thought the same thing.
Also they say that he drank from a bottle “which he said was poison” and then he died.
Well ... yeah. Might have been poison.
I was in my teens when the convicted PA State Treasurer committed suicide by gunshot on national TV.
Some things you just can’t erase.
Meh, he was fighting against Islam. So of course he was arrested. Think you’ll ever see a single ISIS guy returning to Europe on trial in the Hague?
Maybe he coincidentally had a heart attack, just as he drank it?
Did you see it?
Doing the right thing rarely pays.
I was a senior in High School in PA when Budd Dwyer killed himself. Later in college I dated a gal whose father was a speechwriter in the press conference where it happened. He was still suffering from some PTSD. Saddest thing of all is that Dwyer was pretty much later exonerated. From Wikipedia:
“Throughout Dwyer’s trial and after his conviction, he maintained that he was not guilty of the charges levied against him, and that he had been framed. Decades later, the prosecution’s primary witness, William T. Smith, whose testimony was largely used to obtain Dwyer’s conviction, admitted in a documentary about Dwyer that he had lied under oath regarding Dwyer’s acceptance of bribes in order to receive a reduced sentence.[5] Smith acknowledges, as he did at Dwyer’s trial, that he had lied in his own earlier trial when he testified that he had offered Dwyer a bribe. He admitted that he testified against Dwyer in hopes of receiving a reduced sentence and to spare his wife from being prosecuted for her role in the conspiracy, and expressed his regret for that decision and the role it played in Dwyer’s death.”
Yes I noticed that too.
They usually say “alleged war criminal” but since he was fighting Islam, they already convicted him.
Defending Western Civilization for what?
He had been convicted. This hearing meant he had exhausted appeals.
Yep, went out with a very public bang.
Not the live press conference...did see the replays which were preceded with “sensitive viewer might want to leave the room” disclaimers.
UN judges. Probably based decision on Sharia law.
