Maybe. But I keep wondering if they aren’t launching these things with no payload at all. Put a bomb on top, and it won’t have near the range.

Cool. He downplayed lil’ Kim’s impact on world affairs. Kim would have watched that and heard party issues and a few sentences from Mattis. Trump bloodied the Dem’s noses pretty bad - they refused to show up to negotiate the budget etc. Really cool.

THAT is the big news... South Korea fired back.

I would think that retaliation action could, should, draw the US into heightened action in the sea.

Listening now to the magnificent Heather Nuart, State Department spokes woman.

A dialogue path is still the emphasis the State Dept is making.

Wimpy response by South Korea. I wouldn’t be scared of that if I were North Korea.

Based on the organization of today’s press briefing, mixing a few stray references (Trump) to NK with hard hitting critique of congress (holding up military funding NOW) and then having Mattis speak “a few sentences” and then at the very close saying (Trump) “We’ll deal with it” re NK, there’s no real way the networks can avoid broadcasting the whole press conference with insults to Dems intact. They’d have to chop 4 second sound bites into spam to isolate the news that the US viewers are anxious to hear. Once again, well played.

North Korea launched an ICBM that can hit pretty much anywhere in the world.

The missile was in the air for over 50 minutes and flew 4,500 km above the Earth.

[Wimpy response by South Korea. I wouldn’t be scared of that if I were North Korea.]

Remember the bombing that took place while PRESIDENT TRUMP was entertaining the CHINESE LEADER in Florida. He strikes when people least expect it.

ICBMs have an extremely high mass ratio so that wouldn’t really work. Guessing they use a dummy warhead with same weight and balance as real one.

5500 Miles to San Francisco.

It's 6700 miles to NY.

That is exactly what I think. North Korea still can't lob a nuke yet.

Wimpy response is for our benefit, not to enrage NK. South Koreans must be in full bore panic about now, and desperate for the US to secure them, perhaps more forcefully.

I am wondering if we have the muscle we need to address one big theater, should another break out. What Obama hollowed out has not been fully assessed for the public’s knowledge and consumption. Understandable, but nevertheless concerning for the state of readiness we are actually in at this time.

Trump wants money for the military. Not hearing that we are getting it. Thank you, Obama.

NK would have to take California out, before Democrats will get “woke” and EVER defend this country.

"Wimpy" has allies....and they're close by.

NK should be scared. It's the first time they've responded.

Considering how expensive it is to launch, regardless of what is carried as payload, the NorKs would be even stupider than usual to not at least use a dummy weight. They don’t have enough rockets to throw away one just to make it look like they’ve got long range rockets. They need every datum of telemetry with a legitimate payload weight that they can get, if they’re going to get their money’s worth out of the few test launches they can manage.

“Don’t expect that this sub launch was unexpected”

Sub launch? Says who? I haven’t seen or heard any news reporting that yet...

The NORKS have only very old submarine technology. Stuff we can monitor from their port to wherever it suddenly goes down.
