POTUS Trump speaks simple truths the Establishment Media chooses to ignore. These are truths that concern real jobs for real Americans that would help to lift up a struggling Middle Class. One of those truths is how China has economically raped the United States for decades costing millions of jobs, and likely trillions in economic growth.
Mr. Trump is demanding this must end and hes 100% correct as the following excerpt from The Weekly Standard makes abundantly clear:
-
China has announced that it will soon be marketing its cars in the United States. The Peoples Republic is the largest manufacturer of cars in the world, selling more vehicles than Japan and the United States combined. And not because they make such great vehicles.
The Chinese have achieved that place in the sun because of their clever policies and our policy failures, a combination that is not the stuff of which free trade is made. You might not have noticed, but China has been selling a small volume of autos here for a while. Volvo is now owned by Chinas Geely, and markets its made-in-China S60 Inscription here in the States.
Some Detroit-based brands are also imported here from China, and Ford plans to move production of its Focus from Michigan to China, in order to do its bit to help Xi make China great again. But now the onslaught of Chinese-branded vehicles is about to start in earnest.
The Chinese have learned that we will levy a duty of only 2.5 percent on each vehicle imported for sale and have been keeping our import fee at that level even though they collect an import duty of 25 percent on any American-made car sold in China. Little wonder that President Trump congratulated the Chinese on the superior negotiating ability that produced such a disparity.
There is worse. For one thing, no foreigner can make cars in China unless he finds a Chinese partnerwhich will probably be a state-owned companyand then turns over all its American technology and intellectual property to that partnership. As you might imagine, this saves a lot of R&D expense for the Chinese.
Republicans have allowed the above stupidity to take place. So too have Democrats. China has been allowed to push out U.S. products while China-made products pour into our markets. Companies leave America for China and take those jobs with them. Have you driven through parts of Detroit within the last ten years? Its a 3rd-world abomination in what was once one of the most thriving of American cities that lifted up Middle Class families of all colors and socio-economic backgrounds. Not so anymore. Detroit is on the verge of total collapse and that citys troubles are being replicated all across America as other urban centers face similar struggles.
Where is Organized Labor applauding POTUS Trumps efforts to save the working class? Where is Hollywood that so often claims to care for the Little People of the world? Mr. Trump is speaking loudly, often, and most important, TRUTHFULLY on what is truly to blame for the plight of the American Middle Class and he is right to call out China as perhaps the single greatest enemy of working class prosperity in this country.
More Americans need to listen and then support the cause because we are in a fight to save ourselves and this president deserves our help. Donald Trump is fighting for us. We need to make certain we fight for him as well.
Keep Red Chinese slave-labor goods out of America.
This is insanity. There is no way any "free trader" can argue that that is free trade.
Free Trade would be the US charging any country the same as they charge or obstruct us. If the charge/obstruction is zero, then our rate would be zero.
Especially those produced for the Chinese military by the prison work slaves.
Good time to dump fed gubmint altogether and keep “Cocked and Locked Don.45” as CINC/?

Some of whom are actually in North Korea.
I remember, back in the early 80’s, standing on a cliff in a park in Magnolia (Seattle neighborhood with view of Elliot bay), taking tons of pictures of a ship coming into harbor. It was a very big news story and historic moment.
It was the very first trade ship from China.
My, how times change. And pretty fast.
The problem is Adam Smith, studying conditions hundreds of years ago, claimed that one should always allow free imports regardless of the trade policies of the importing nation. That’s wrong. He made a mistake.
Sounds like that Adam took a bite out of another apple.
That was fast. Remember when Japanese and “junk” were used in the same sentence? As we’ve learned so-called “fair trade” that isn’t fair sends the economy of the cheated nation over to the cheating nation.
I pray that we’re not importing N. Korean products falsely labeled as Chinese.
Because I know that someone would know that.
I’d be furious knowing that I’d been duped perhaps into buying a product that went to upholding the nation that wants to destroy us with nukes.
They don't even need that. The wage disparity caused by their manipulation of their currency already accounts for the price difference.
So the effective tariff is much higher.
The "free trade" system as originally advocated made much of the fact that winners of the competition would see their currencies gain in value and thus their wage advantage disappear.
Nothing of the sort happened because the ChiComs cheated and continue to do so.
Throwing us a few bones in the form of investment is really meaningless. In the end, they still own everything and buy nothing from us.
China is 1.6 billion people. They have more then enough resources and people to create and sustain their own internal economy which will afford them a high standard of living. There can be only one reason they want to go further: economic domination of the rest of the world followed by political domination.
We don't have to be part of this equation. Trump the Magnificent has done great things to push back on them, but in the end, it's never going to be enough for them.
That’s really funny. The chinese already own a good chunk of the US auto market.
Not whole vehicles, but imported parts, steel, glass, and all of the small pieces have been coming out of china since the late 90’s.
You can thank general motors and their “china pricing” policy with the tier suppliers for that.
Donald Trump’s historic and successful trip to China has done more to reset trade policies between China and the US than any other president ever.
This trip should have made front page news for weeks as it was outstanding in the amount of good it has done. And will continue to do.
But did the MSM cover this? Noooooo. It was all about the gropers; Moore, Franken, Conyers, et al.
You’re describing a dirty, broken system currently being cleaned up and repaired.
“One of those truths is how China has economically raped the United States for decades costing millions of jobs, and likely trillions in economic growth.”
And who do you think made this all possible? Our Haaavaad-Educated “captains of industry!” I spent the last twenty years of my working life as a senior manager in Procurement and Materials Management functions in several Silicon Valley companies. All we heard from senior management was China, China, China. Now the organizations I ran spend all their time “commuting” to China to visit their “suppliers.” These companies had not been interested in developing domestic suppliers at all, until Trump showed up. These corporate a$$holes now are worried that their American consumers, having figured out that these people have been screwing them over for a buck, are going to turn against them in the marketplace. Hence the “newly found” mantra of “domestic sourcing” is where it’s at.
Lastly, with respect to the automobile market, consumers should understand now who owns the foreign car manufacturers. Jaguar is and Indian company, Your Rolls Royce is German, and your Volvo is Chinese, your Cooper is a BMW.
The Chinese make rolling ^%$* boxes for their market and third world counties, think Yugo. They do not have the safety nor the engineering that US or European cars have. We may not get crap boxes but i’m not betting what was sent to test at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) is what will be sold on the showroom. the Japanese auto companies pulled that stunt before and I don’t trust the Chinese not to do the same.
So what have we done about it in the last nine months?... other than schmoozing it up with them?
I remember a story over ten years ago where Chrysler had established a grand Cherokee factory and came back to inspect a while later. They found it working three shifts and the local area flooded with “Jeep grand cherokee’s” with no identifying logos on them.
You do business with the Chinese (regarding manufacturing) at your peril.
Went “CUBA” mode on the NEW car sales in this country. Buy only used from other individuals versus dealers. Always try to get classics, 25 year or older models for cheaper tags , licensing, inspection and insurance. Restore every vehicle to like new condition and drive em like I own em versus drive em like I stole em. Use only “Mom’n Pop” mechanics if I can’t fix myself and harvest parts from salvage yards or websites when possible....
Vote with my dollars regardless of the current political condition of this nation .
Same with fuel prices, use bed tanks and larger OEM replacement gas tanks on my vehicles and a fuel stabilizer. Buy bulk fuel when cheap. Top off my tank before I park em each day and don’t if the prices are artificially higher for a fabricated bullish*t reason ......
My opinion and experience only, trying to vote with my dollars ... stay safe.
