In the continuing Roy Moore sexual misconduct allegations controversy, there are a lot of unknowns. But we do know one thing: Mitch McConnell can't lose.
The rest of us? Not so much.
The accusations against Moore and the nature of those allegations couldn't have come at a better time for McConnell, whose top priority is and has always been consolidating his personal power in the Senate.
Politically, this works out well for McConnell because the news broke a few weeks after Moore defeated Senator Luther Strange in the Alabama special election primary. Strange was the candidate McConnell backed in the race, and the loss was a blow to his personal political fortunes.
McConnell has handled this controversy with a keen understanding of the current tenor of the country. Note that Monday, McConnell did not simply call for Moore to step aside from the race. He used the very politically correct term for responding to sexual assault allegations these days by uttering the phrase, "I believe the women, yes."
All the following likely scenarios favor McConnell.

You get the award for the dumbest post on this thread.
Well, you will get your wish.......A member of the GOPe is gone, and we get a liberal, pro abortionist Dem in his place.
Good work.
Only if the voters of Alabama are naive enough to be manipulated by highly dubious forty year old allegations. In the mean time, Democrats are running men dressed as women and winning. Amazing.
And you, and your GOPe hating colleagues, get the award for the dumbest political move of the past several years. You defeated a perfectly good conservative Senator - who Trump supported - and who supported the Trump agenda, and replaced him with a total nut job who will loose the seat to a pro abortion liberal.
Good work guys. Think how happy you’ve make the Dems.
Anyone ever hear of Pyrrhus?
Judge Moore has been involved in Alabama politics for several decades. That these scandals have come public within the last few days indicate that people with deep pockets are dragging more money than James Carville's famous $100 bill through the trailer parks of Alabama.
[The scandal here is that Mitch McConnell concocted this smear campaign.]
Hoe can POTUS Trump keep this scumbag’s wife in his Cabinet??
If I were him, I’d place a call to Mitch demanding he end it, or his wife will be out of a job ASAP.
Never Trumpers and drive by media radio talk hosts are having a field day ignoring the fact that all of the accusers were of the age of legal consent. Including the one claiming when 14 years old. For her accusations are the juiciest. Which they gleefully relate and dwell on in a touchy feel-ly manner as if it came off of a police report yesterday. Not as a unsubstantiated recollection from 40 years ago. Because they know these are damaging accusations which will be almost impossible to disprove.
Despite that fact that it has been uncovered that two of his accusers are working for the Perversion Party and that their accusations are false and politically motivated. The drivebys and the nevers media are not reporting this but are mentioning one accuser is a “Republican” but never name the person.
Here is background on two accusers. One works for the perverts that one knows the one who claimed she was 14. But was actually 17 at the time? http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3603606/posts

someone named Roy signed it Moore’s last name was added to it.
It’s just sad to me that conservative waited until 2016 to revolt. We should have kicked turtle head and these other clowns to the curb many years ago.
Now we have to replace most GOP Congressmen and almost all GOP Senators all at once.
Welcome back!
Dems don’t share power. GOPe does.
You will have to ask the voters of Alabama.
I’m guessing a big part of it has to do with HOW Strange was appointed
to the seat by a corrupt Alabama Governor.
You’re presuming the artificial separation between ‘dem’ and ‘gope’ is a real thing.
I make no presumption.
They’re the same thing.
We need to drag some $100 bills through every House and Senate office. Let's get all the dirt out on every scum in Congress. Let's find out who Lindsey Graham is romantically involved with. Let's find out what very young age is of interest to democrat members of the Swamp. Let's clean King Augeas' stables by letting in enough light to see all the dirt and then washing the filth away using a river of informed voters.
Just a coincidence, huh.
Rush made the point today that in the time frame of the allegations now lodged against him, Roy Moore was a Democrat. Wiki agrees:Moore quit his prosecuting position to run as a Democrat for the county's circuit-court judge seat in 1982.
Yep.
So now it’s a ‘sex scandal’? Funny how these evolve.... and so quickly with time being of the essence.
