The mother of Leigh Corfman, who says that Alabama Senatorial Candidate Roy Moore tried to engage in a sexual encounter with her when she was 14, has contradicted a key detail of Corfman’s story. Speaking by phone to Breitbart News on Saturday, Corfman’s mother, Nancy Wells, 71, says that her daughter did not have a phone in her bedroom during the period that Moore is reported to have allegedly called Corfman – purportedly on Confman’s bedroom phone – to arrange at least one encounter.
Moore strongly denies Corfman’s claims.
The Washington Post, which first published its newsmaking, on-the-record interview with Corfman last week, cited Corfman as remembering that she provided Moore with her number when she was 14. She said that she spoke to Moore from what she described as the phone in her bedroom.
Citing Corfman, the Post reported:
After her mother went into the courtroom, Corfman says, Moore asked her where she went to school, what she liked to do and whether he could call her sometime. She remembers giving him her number and says he called not long after. She says she talked to Moore on her phone in her bedroom, and they made plans for him to pick her up at Alcott Road and Riley Street, around the corner from her house.
Soon after, Corfman said, he called again, and picked her up again at the same spot.
Later on, Corfman described a third phone call:
She says that after their last encounter, Moore called again, but that she found an excuse to avoid seeing him. She says that at some point during or soon after her meetings with Moore, she told two friends in vague terms that she was seeing an older man.

It will be interesting if McConnell tries to get the Senate to unseat Moore after the election. Actually, I hope he does, because anything that can be used against McConnell to drive him clear out of the Senate would be a good thing.

Yesterday on the Joe Pag’s weekend show, he brought this up. Today, every 14-year-old girl has a phone. But in the 70s? (I’m old enough to remember). If she gave him a phone number, it was her mom’s home phone number, not hers. If she had a phone in her room, and her mom says she didn’t, he’d still be calling her mom’s phone.
Again, for those who weren’t around, phones lines used to be expensive. Only very wealthy people back then would spring for a separate line for their kids. My high school friend was a doctor’s son, Rolls Royce & Bentley owner, and he and his sister didn’t have private lines.
Maybe Corfman will change her story. "Oh, yeah, now I remember. He called on my cellphone. Yeah. That's the ticket!"
We had a phone in the hall at that time,with a long cord,that COULD reach into some of the bedrooms.
They could always say that happened.

Sorry, FRiends, but the story sounds REALLY familiar to me. I read these articles in a great hope that I will find Moore a victim of slander. But each one I read make me feel he did it. The way she AND HER MOM talk about how he got her alone... His grooming, his slow intro into the sex and backing off as if he were a nice guy when she needed him to... I am biased here. He sounds EXACTLY like how a successful predator operates.
His long marriage and kids and grandkids: my abuser has all that. And he was caught after decades of abusing kids, going younger over the years, down to Preschool age. At least it does seem like the judge has no accusations post his marriage.
I’m sorry to not be blinded by his conservatism, guys. Or to assume she is a paid plant. Nevertheless, there is not much proof other than the mom corroborating some of it. I’m ok with Alabama choosing him.
I feel like I’m repeating myself, but when I was 19, I dated a 31 year old. I met him when I was 18. I would have dated him then, but he had a girlfriend.
The drinking age in Alabama at that time was 19. As a couple, in the circles we moved in, (he was a musician), we were not odd or outliers at all.
But if you actually read it, the mom is backing up the daughters story. She just corrected on which phone was used.
I don’t think she was 14. All of the other girls he dated were older teens, above 16, which is perfectly legal in Alabama.

I don’t believe a word of this story. Without knowing the man, how can you condemn him on a flimsy story decades old, only coming out now?

But when Bill Clinton in his 50s was screwing around with a 19 year old in the White House we were told it’s just about sex and that everybody lies about that. Plus let’s keep in mind that inserting a cigar in a teenager is pretty perverted.

Hey, she could be paid off to make up this story in all its detail. But I am feeling queasy because the details of how he got her alone and what he did with her alone sound like what a good predator of kids would do. It could all be fake, sure. I’m just being honest about how it sounds. I have no way to know if it’s true.
The phone was still there when we went to visit after we were married years later. The bowl with change in it was still there too.
Great idea by her dad. They not only had to pay for their calls themselves, but they had to talk on the phone at the kitchen counter when other family members were usually around. No chance for secret, private conversations.
