LOS ANGELES The number of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer characters on U.S. television shows have reached record highs, and advocacy group GLAAD said on Thursday that their stories were more important than ever given moves in the United States to roll back LGBTQ acceptance.
In it annual report on diversity on the small screen, GLAAD found 329 regular and recurring LGBTQ characters across all broadcast, cable and streaming TV platforms, including the first asexual and non-binary characters.
GLAAD President Sarah Kate Ellis said TV was a critical place for the portrayal of LGBTQ characters and their lives.
"At a time when the Trump administration is trying to render LGBTQ people invisible, representing LGBTQ people in all of our diversity in scripted TV programs is an essential counterbalance that gives LGBTQ people stories to relate to," Ellis said in a statement.

Part of the indoctrination.
(...given moves in the United States to roll back LGBTQ acceptance.)
What moves would those be?
What TV?
Except for FIFA football (Soccer) I watch none of it anymore
TV Ratings at Record Lows!......................
The last two or three years I have noticed the process of inserting more Gay characters into shows. Even into a meaningless subplot they are doing this. It has turned me off several shows and at this point I don’t watch any network shows anymore, of course the practice is in about any show whether it’s network or cable. Probably one of the reasons I am gravitating to more older shows and stuff I find on YouTube. One of the worst shows I think is “Modern Family”, will not watch that mess not matter what, would rather watch “Perry Mason” reruns.
“representing LGBTQ people in all of our diversity in scripted TV programs is an essential counterbalance that gives LGBTQ people stories to relate to,”
...or, an overt attempt to ram perversion further into the mainstream, in an effort to “normalize” perverse behavior...
And not one of those shows are something worth watching.
I did watch the first three episodes of Designated Survivor but was quickly losing interest halfway through the second, and spent more time channel surfing through the third than actually watching the episode.
‘Except for FIFA football (Soccer)’
yep, no LGBTQ characters there...
“What TV?”
You beat me to it. It’s been disconnected for over 9 years at my home. Don’t miss it at all.
My TV watching at record low. Inane “comedies”. Sex perversions. Deliberately and intentionally giving a bad example to children (2.5 men), obsession with sex, obsession with men assaulting women, obsession with proving women better than men, obsession with proving muzzies are better than humans. Enough.
I think that TV is "probably" oversampling the community.
One of a number of reasons why I haven’t watched American TV in years.
The whole gay spectrum makes up less than 4% of the population. They are way over represented on TV.
How else do you brainwash “Minds Full of Mush”.
What baffles me is how parents dont interject the fact, to their “MFOM”, that this behavior although on the TV is not normal.
Swaying you is not an agenda so they dont care if you watch
.and parents neglect to impress that on the brats
I would suggest everyone watch Korean TV which is what has happened in our house for probably the last 7 years or more. Programs infinitely better done than American TV, no homosexual agenda or political correctness, and by American standards they are pretty much G-rated, and yet very entertaining. No raunch. We get 3 Korean broadcast channels on cable here, plus you can use services like Viki and DramaFire.
This is something to be proud of? Next we will have a tally of beastials and foot fefishers.
