Senator Rand Paul's neighbor Rene Boucher has pleaded not guilty after being charged for attacking the Senator at his Kentucky home.
Paul is currently recovering after he was allegedly tackled from behind by Boucher for what Boucher's attorney told CBS News in a statement "was a very regrettable dispute between two neighbors over a matter that most people would regard as trivial."
But Paul appears to be disputing claims made by his next-door neighbor's lawyer that a "trivial" dispute over landscaping issues were at the root of a recent dust-up that left the senator with six broken ribs.
The statement did not further describe what precipitated the attack. It did note that Boucher and Paul have been next-door neighbors for 17 years and said that the two, both physicians, had worked together when they were both practicing. "We sincerely hope that Senator Paul is doing well and that these two gentlemen can get back to being neighbors as quickly as possible."
But Paul's most recent tweets suggest the drama may not be as minor as Boucher's attorney makes it seem. Paul tweeted links to two reports by Breitbart News and the Washington Examiner, both claiming the reports of a "landscaping dispute" were erroneous, citing various neighbors of the Paul family.

I don’t understand how breaking a half dozen ribs that could have easily punctured a lung and killed is a misdemeanor? That’s serious assault with intent to kill. Guess this is my opinion and or my absolute ignorance of most laws but I do not see how this can be a misdemeanor.
Showing the Constitution to a liberal is like showing a crucifix to a vampire......................
That is the thought that keeps coming to mind: no way some Doctor just suddenly runs across the yard and hammers a neighbor. Peel this guy back some, look into his history and I’d bet you a cheese-burger there is a trail that puts his actions in context. There were warning signs before this happened.
Exactly, who cares why. And why not felonious assault?
Yep, attempted murder...
Yes Boucher’x attorney is trying to evade the federal charge of assaulting a member of Congress which carries a fine and 12 months in the slam.
Money or sex
religion or politics
This turd attacked a Senator...that’s a felony, Dr Dunce.
Begs the question, then. How did Senator Paul end up with 5 broken ribs?
Boucher hates Republicans. Hate crime.
Republicans aren’t a Protected Species, so it’s okay...............
Or evade a terrorism charge which would be 10 years................
Or maybe he is going to claim that Paul came after him and he was just defending himself?
Or that Paul fell on his own and he was rushing over to help?
But a not guilty claim means, "I didn't do it."
Of course, people lie.
oh, and don’t sneeze
Broke 1 cracked 2 going down during a Track Bike race (velodrome).
...also cracked coccyx and pelvis in two places.
Funny how you have to approach the bed from just the right angle, lift, lower, bend, sit, twist, stretch, roll, lift, twist, lower, cry, sleep.
Exactly. This d-bag committed a violent felony. He needs to go prison.
serkously undercharged or circusly charged?
Not guilty? How can you assault someone and not be guilty. Was his body borrowed for the assault?
“yea - Five broken ribs is trivial. I broke 2 ribs in a bicycle crash and that hurt like H**l. Could not sleep or breathe for a couple of weeks.”
I have a good friend that was involved in a bicycle accident about 6 years ago. He broke about 6 ribs. No lung damage. But because the ribs were not able to function to lift the lungs for breathing the doctors thought he was going to die. They recommended emergency surgery to put metal bars across the ribs along some other things. The doctors basically said, if they don’t do the surgery, he might die in a couple of days. I couldn’t believe that broken ribs could be dangerous.
CNN Story:
Update at 1:05 p.m. ET — In a new statement to CNN’s Drew Griffin, Paul’s attorney Doug Stafford called the incident “a serious criminal matter involving serious injury.” He said both local and federal authorities are looking into it and added the two men had not spoken for years beforehand.
“This was not a ‘fight,’ it was a blindside, violent attack by a disturbed person. Anyone claiming otherwise is either uninformed or seeking media attention.”
Rand Paul was also at the baseball practice where the shooting took place. Is someone trying to target him?
