The Houston Texans have signed free agent quarterback Josh Johnson and released Matt McGloin.

The moves come a day after coach Bill O'Brien said they had discussed the possibility of adding Colin Kaepernick in the wake of a season-ending knee injury to rookie Deshaun Watson.

Instead of adding Kaepernick, the former 49ers quarterback who began the protest movement by kneeling during the national anthem last season, Houston chose Johnson to be its third quarterback.

The 31-year-old Johnson has been with the Giants, Bills, Colts and 49ers over the past three seasons, but hasn't appeared in a game since he played two for the Bengals in 2013. He spent his first four seasons with Tampa Bay where he appeared in 26 games from 2008-11.

31 years old. Hasn't played a down in 4 years. And still preferable to Kaepernick.

“Houston chose Johnson to be its third quarterback”

Houston? Texans? Where’d the Oilers go? The last time I watched the NFL the Houston team was the Oilers.

Have I missed something?

The Oilers moved to Tennessee and became the Titans.

On the off chance you are serious, I’ll tell you the Tennessee Titans are the former Oilers.

Good move rejecting (2-14 loser) Colin K. He has a much more serious knee problem than Deshaun Watson's injury.

The Texans signed a black quarterback, just not Kapernick.
I love it.

I guess this means the Kap is finished.

That’s an excellent solution to thwart the people trying to bully them into hiring Toxic Megacolon Krappernick.

Thought we were all supposed to be boycotting the far left, racist NFL.
Can some not even give up the NFL to defend the flag?

Kapernick is more valueable to the left as a martyr than as a QB with an NFL contract.

Yes, as conservatives we all walk lock step with whatever we are told to do. There shall be no dissent from what is approved or you will be chastised!

Or, maybe conservatives are people who can disagree with others who hold general beliefs in common without the commissars getting involved and rallying the rabid believers into a crusade to purge the ranks of those who don’t follow the party line closely enough.

or maybe conservatives have principles, and will boycott the crap of the NFL, who every week insult veterans , those serving, and those who have died for the country, and the flag.

The (Dallas) Texans moved to Kansas City in 1963 before the Cleveland Browns moved to Baltimore in 1996. But those aren’t the same Dallas Texans who became the core of the Baltimore Colts team in 1954 before the Baltmore Colts moved to Indianapolis in 1983.
