Vin says “I was in the Navy for a year.”
One year active? I thought the minimum was at least two active. Maybe at that time it was different, since so many men entered through the draft. When I entered the Navy in 1979, the draft and compulsory service had already ended.

One of the greatest... Correction. THE greatest of all time.
God bless Vinny.
We will not see his like again on this earth.

Racist and ageist takes by the self-hating white basement boys of that circle jerk of a website? Not surprising.

When Denver took the knee, they became the Denver Donkeys to me. I changed the channel and have not watched a MFL game since then.

No one with any understanding of sports in America would ever say a word against Vin Scully. Absolutely right. Harry Caray was the same way - not just the voice of a team but the voice of the sport.

There was never anyone who was even in his league. Vin Scully was by far the greatest.
I won't go quite that far - in the Bay Area, we've had Lon Simmons, Bill King, and now Jon Miller, so we've gotten spoiled. But there's no doubt Scully is a living legend, a man who once called Brooklyn Dodgers games with Red Barber. On summer nights when I was a kid, my friends and I would be sitting out in the backyard, and we could get Dodgers games on the radio all the way from down in LA - we'd sit and listen to Vin narrate.

One year active?
Any number of scenarios could be in play. Hardship discharge? Health concerns? Bad conduct?
Hell. John Boehner only served 8 weeks in the Navy and was discharged for a “bad back”.

I truly dislike that people have made this about veterans. Its about the United States of America and ALL it stood for and given its citizens. I am glad I saw your post before replying.
I totally agree with you. This is about the flag of the United States of America, not a military flag. This flag is about EVERY citizen past and present. It is our flag and everybody needs to be proud of that fact.
I was in the military for 20 years and fought the Cold War and it was for OUR flag and Country. The military does not lay claim to it. It is the inheritance of all citizens of the United States.

Maybe at that time it was different, since so many men entered through the draft. I believe that was the case. OR it could have been a disability discharge.
