Yep, they know she’s handling them like a pro.

An articulate, well dressed Republican Southern lady in a position of power. That’s why they hate her.

And they’re berating Sarah Sanders’s appearance.

It's unfortunate that "our" side engages in the same behavior sometimes...

I like her a lot. She’s a serious person, there’s not any fluff to her; maybe that puts some people off, but it’s exactly right for her job.

I also think she’s naturally attractive and shouldn’t do herself up too much. (I get tired of seeing the overdone makeup on all the news shows. To me, it takes away from their credibility.)

"What’s wrong with having a southern accent?"

I spoke with a southern accent long ago. It was a deep, low, slow drawl. Then, just as I was coming of age, my parents moved me far to the north, to some rocky hills described as being part of the South. The other young folks there called me "Tex." I loved them like brothers and sisters, but their accent caused tinnitus.

It's been so long. I miss those hillbillies. I talk to one or another of them from time to time, but for some reason, they're getting to be hard of hearing. ;-)

Most southerners I know have a very mild accent, but they vary in the drawl, depending on where they’re from. Some are extremely loud, though, and if I had to live with them, I’d probably be hard of hearing :)

Now, my dad was a West Virginia hillbilly. He did have tinnitus and was hard of hearing. But he was a jet mechanic and survived two wars.

I grew up in Chicago, lived in Atlanta for 50 years and my husband is from Arkansas. I’ve heard a lot of different accents. The southern accent sounds soft to my ears, the northern accent is harsh sounding. Sarah’s accent is pleasant to hear.

“Sarah’s accent is pleasant to hear.”

Sarah speaks softly but carries a big stick .. or maybe it’s a big wallop :)

So they’re intimidated by her. They don’t know how to handle a lady who smacks them down hard like she does - yet in a mind-your-manners way.

I’ve learned that about southern women since moving to TN. Southern women are some of the toughest I’ve met, and they’re so sweet about it. It’s practically an art.

Definitely so.

I think being both sweet and tough at the same time leads to some folks being confused, especially if they’re used to thinking soft-spoken means easy to back down and intimidate.

I was joking about the Ozarks. And really, not everyone there speaks the same way. Imagine a high treble voice, though, shrieking while the nose is being pinched. Honestly, that kind of voice could be found pretty easily in someone or another anywhere in the middle of the country a few decades ago.

Once teased a coworker from Arkansas about her nasal shriek. She replied that I sounded like a moaning bullfrog and started mimicking one.
