Late Friday morningArmy Judge Col. Jeffery R. Nance ruled Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl will not face prison time for walking off his base eight years ago and abandoning his platoon mates.
Bergdahl's defense argued he has been punished enough by being held captive by the Taliban, which radio traffic showed he purposely sought out, and shouldn't be subjected to further captivity. Nance bought it and Bergdahl will simply face a dishonorable discharge, have his rank stripped and will pay $10,000.
Good men died searching for Bergdahl. Here are their names.

But the consequences for Bergdahl's actions don't end with these brave men. The damage he did is far reaching and extensive.
Tragically, there were MANY more wounded & killed than this. Air assets were diverted from Troops in Contact so they could look for him. https://t.co/qIda5FPnKy— Sean Parnell (@SeanParnellUSA) November 3, 2017
Hard to overstate how much Bergdahl disrupted operations across the entire country for the better part of a year, w/ consequences like these https://t.co/60OTt8oJ1X— James Hasson (@JamesHasson20) November 3, 2017
And how about the five Taliban commanders President Obama let out of GITMO in a trade for Bergdahl? What are they up to?
The U.S. military and intelligence community now suspect that one of the five Taliban detainees released from Guantanamo Bay in return for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl in May of last year has attempted to return to militant activity from his current location in Qatar by making contact with suspected Taliban associates in Afghanistan, multiple officials tell CNN.
The development has led to an ongoing debate inside the administration about whether there is a new threat from this man, and potentially the other four.
Disgrace.
No. I'd prefer we find him, torture him for months, then kill him.
Has the name of the judge been made public or is it a military secret?
Isn’t it time one of us made it a point to find him, torture him for months, then kill him?
Remember the creep converted to the cult of death. That means that the entire dem party will do all it can to help him escape his punishment.
Bergdahl should be executed by hanging on the National Mall at noon tomorrow.
Here’s hoping he doesn’t live to see his next birthday.
I am really troubled about this sentence, and then thought of a question. I know this was done in military court. Would it be possible for any of the soldiers who were wounded searching for him be allowed to file any sort of civil lawsuit in regular court?
It might also have been Benedict Arnold.
It was Trumps fault. Nance indicated so
That’s false. The judge gave no reasons for his verdict today.
+infinity
Blaming Trump?! What did he have to do with any of this? He wasn’t president and he cannot get his judicial picks through the Wall of Traitors.
Apparently our military and justice system have been politicized to the point where treason is punishable by a slap on the wrist I am disgusted I don’t even know my country anymore but this guy should be making big rocks into small rocks at Leavenworth if anybody should and facing the death penalty as well despicable
Yahoo News:
“The controversial decision concludes a fraught episode in U.S. military history. Bergdahl had been captured by the Taliban hours after leaving his post and held captive by the Haqqani network, allies of the Taliban, for five years. Several U.S. service members were injured searching for Bergdahl. Some critics claim that his actions led to the deaths of American troops but the prosecution did not provide evidence of this. Former President Barack Obama was heavily criticized after trading five Taliban terrorists for the soldier in May 2014.”
“Obama knew Bergdahl defected and still invited his Taliban-sympathizing father to the Rose Garden.”
Something stunk about that scene the moment I saw it.
It was rancor of the evil spirit in that man.
Are you sure? Info I am seeing quoting him said it would ...but maybe thats from this week
He said trump would be mitigating factor. Search on google. I cant link. No idea what he said in decision
I am completely unaffected by any opinions President Trump may have about Sgt. Bergdahl, the judge said. He added that prosecutors had convinced him that the Trump comments wont put an intolerable strain on the public perception of military courts.
“..however short,...”
Let’s hope so. I certainly do.
He’s a piece of sh*t.
I think his comments about mitigating were a few days before this but not sure
There are mitigating and aggravating factors
He said he would use trumps words as mitigating factors. Look at the sentence. You think he didnt???
