This has been a crazy year in American politics, perhaps the most tumultuous year since 1968. When, in the early morning hours of November 9, the outcome of the 2016 election became clear, almost everyone -- experts and non-experts alike -- felt that the political earth had trembled beneath their feet.
Here are thirteen of the most shocking moments since Donald Trump won the election.
1. On November 27, 2016, President Trump tweets that "I won the popular vote if you deduct the millions of people who voted illegally."
2. As he takes office, President Trump refuses to create a clear firewall between his global business empire and the Oval Office.
3. On March 4, President Trump accuses former President Obama of wiretapping him during the campaign in Trump Tower in New York City.
4. President Trump fires James Comey on May 9, while the FBI director is in the middle of investigating whether his campaign colluded with the Russians in the election.
5. President Trump tweets about MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski, a leading critic of the administration, on June 29 saying that she was "bleeding badly from a face-lift" at a social gathering in Florida where they schmoozed.
6. With mounting evidence about how much Russian President Vladimir Putin's regime, a hostile power, worked to intervene in the 2016 election, the President caves to pressure on August 2 to sign legislation passed by a Republican Congress that imposed tighter sanctions on Russia and curtailed his ability to ease them.
7. At a speech to police cadets on July 28, President Trump effectively endorses police brutality when he says that police officers should not be so worried about people who have been arrested banging their heads as they get into squad cars.

The opposite of everything CNN says is true.

As for #9 (how both sides of the Charlottesville crap were engaging in extremism, he was 100% correct. However, I don’t know that there were actually any “right wing” extremists there. All I’ve read, and I have not made an exhaustive search to be honest, is that everyone involved seems to have been a liberal, Democrat supporting person.
I’ve lately been watching German newsreels from WWII (Die Deutsche Wochenschau) on YouTube—most with English subtitles. It’s fascinating to watch the early stuff when they invaded Norway and Denmark to “insure their neutrality” and seeing all of the happy Belgians welcoming their new Nazi overlords. And then you watch 1944 & 1945. “The British, Canadians and Americans are being held near the coast by our brave lads as they shift to more defensible positions”. “These gum-chewing American prisoners show how mongrelized the US is.” “Just because you took Paris and Belgrade, don’t think Aachen will be so easy!” this from Goebbels himself. A careful German view must have thought to himself, “Paris and Belgrade? Those cities were ours just a year ago”. It reminds me a bit of our network news.

Well a lot of us at Freerepublic thought Trump had a good shot because we thought the polls were skewed in their methodology (the most common point of disagreement being whether they were skewed on purpose).
