What is it with people like you whose first thought is to blame someone who had nothing to do with this case? The judge is wrong. Period. Then candidate Trump was a private citizen entitled to express his opinion under First Amendment protections. The people to blame here are the traitorous deserter and a so-called judge whose political antipathy toward the current president takes precedence over genuine justice.

If it was a courts-martial, then it was a military officer as military judge. the Army has many military judges who work and are assigned directed from the Army judiciary in Falls Church, VA. They are responsible only to the general officer who runs the judiciary (at least it was that way back in my days). The judges run their courts as they see fit, just like any other judge. I knew some very excellent judges in my Army legal career and I knew some who were complete idiots as far as I and the men and women who worked with me, believed them to be. Just like in the civilian world, there are liberal military attorneys and conservative ones. Depends on their back grounds. DO NOT expect that every soldier, marine, sailor or airman is conservative. I knew many very liberal sergeants and officers, who voted lock stock and barrel for dimocrats, every election.

Yep, he got off with a slap on the wrist (because of time he served as a Taliban captive, which was of his own doing) and a $10,000 fine and rank reduced. What kind of message does that send?
