The Environmental Protection Agency dismissed its top science counselors without telling them in advance, two of them told HuffPost on Wednesday.
The head of the Science Advisory Board, Peter Thorne, and the head of the Board of Scientific Counselors, Deborah Swackhamer, said they learned from news reporters that they had been replaced.
This is really a destruction of the scientific integrity at EPA, said Thorne, a University of Iowa professor of occupational and environmental health who has served as the head of the Science Advisory Board since 2015. Its disheartening to see.
Swackhamer went public five months ago with accusations that Pruitts chief of staff pressured her to alter her congressional testimony to play down the EPAs dismissal of scientific advisers.
I was stunned that he was pushing me to correct something in my testimony, Swackhamer told The New York Times in June. I was factual, and he was not. I felt bullied.

Where do they get the nutty idea they must get advance notice they are being replaced?

It was a chance we were willing to take when we canned you.
You’re fired! And take your hockey stick with you!
“Gee, I was fired once without warning.”
Exactly!
Most are. Here, have a pink slip is all I got.
Thankfully, they took it back. I kept my job.
“Clean out your desk and follow the security person to the door.”
“scientific integrity at EPA”
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
> “I felt bullied.
I normally object to use of this meaningless term (bullying). But I’ll give her a pass since she’s probably an expert at bullying. I’d guess it sucks to being on the receiving end of “bullying” after decades of being on the team that is the bully.
>This is really a destruction of the scientific integrity
I won’t give her a pass here unless she can cite a lot of past criticism of Hansen, Mann, IPCC, etc. I’d guess her position involved covering for people who literally argued against scientific integrity (publishing data, reproducing research, valuing observation over models that disagree with observation, ...).
Actually, I’d say they had plenty of warning. Donald Trump got elected. They’re darned lucky they stayed on this long.
Making EPA Great Again
Once ...
OMG!!! EPA bureaucrats are just now finding out the U.S. has elections, elections have consequences and the bureaucrats are not the government, they just work for it!!! How come no one ever told them that before???
Scientific Integrity at EPA.
AKA
Shiny end of the turd.
Come to think about it, it happened twice!
Once the company I worked for was sold and our factory was closed suddenly and move to a foreign country..................
Wow, replaced employees speaking smack. Why I never...
Clean up old sites. Fine old violators.
Quit harassing businesses.
I feel sorry for anyone trying to open a new business site in the EPA environment of the last decade or so, and I think it’s safe to extend that back 20 or 30 years too.
Pruitt knew that if told in advance, Swackhamer would run to social media and whine, hoping to rally up a support/pressure group.
My eyes feel verrrry dry. I can’t spare any tears.
A couple of hacks get axed and we are to be concerned, let them go peddle their climate change nonsense in Europe.
“We fixed the glitch.”
Their prediction models didn’t see this coming?
