Cable companies freak out after 1 million cut cord in 3 months

Cord-cutting, or at least the speed at which people are ditching pay TV, is on track to be the biggest upset of the year. There’s finally a collection of cheap-ish streaming services widely available, and as you’d imagine, people are jumping ship from cable as fast as humanly possible.

When selling many of the big screen TVs, the retailers have taken advantage of the way pro football looked on those screens. I wouldn’t be surprised many of those large screens were sold to people who wanted to watch the NFL on them.

This brings up an interesting premise.

Those who aren’t watching the NFL any longer, may not be as likely to swap out for a better big screen. They may not want cable as much. They may not be buying the beer and pizza they used to consume during the big game day gatherings. Other snacks, soft drinks, meat for BBQs, and other things could wind up sitting on retailer’s shelves.

Laugh on Lefties. Kaepernick has screwed a lot of people, both through his own actions and inspiring others to mimic him. Management has catered to his beliefs.

It won’t be just the NFL and ESPN who get hurt.

I’m waiting for the Sinclair acquisition of Tribune to be approved, closely followed by the expansion of NexGen Satellite.

It will provide better picture and sound and selection, plus internet for less than half of what I now pay.

Interesting. I was a cord-cutter from way back but in the past few months, I've been getting a lot of inquiries from co-workers and family asking about what is involved. It appears that people are quickly catching on that they have been getting hosed by the cable companies for years and now there are alternatives.

Many people have been resisting only because of NFL football (which you cannot easily get without cable). The recent shenanigans with the NFL appear to have eliminated that resistance barrier.

The biggest resistance I got from my wife a few years back was that she would no longer be able to see her favorite TV shows in their current season. But once she was introduced to streaming, that was immediately no longer an issue. It no longer matters to her whether she is a year or two behind on a show. But what really hooked her to our new setup (Roku box with Netflix, AmazonPrime) was getting YouTube on the TV. There is just an amazing amount of content on YouTube and the quality of the video is much improved on the TV.

I can’t complain about the hardware, just the monthly bill and honestly a lot of the programming (that is included even in the basic packages) is for lack of a better word offensive to me as a Christian.

Every year, Time Warner would raise my rates and every year I'd call up to complain that as 20 year customer I deserved better. They'd agree, then give me a much better deal and we'd both be happy.

I grab torrents on my p.c. and use mini dlna to get onto set.

Watch out with SmartTVs. They come default set to report to Nielsen ratings. You have to block internet access carefully to keep your privacy.

DirecTV ought to pay ME.

Half their channels are 100% commercial channels trying to sell me a vacuum or whatever.

I had better options and choices with Time Warner cable.

Just can’t understand paying to watch commercials.

I remember how cable TV was sold in the late 1970s: INSTEAD of commercials, you could pay upfront and just get the content, commercial free.

I cut the cord several years ago. I have a home made window antenna that gives me 34 FREE over the air channels, CLEAR and SHARP. Two are movie channels. I also watch free you tube movies on my computer and I do not go through a cable company for my Internet.It is included in my phone bill with Frontier (used to be Verison) (sp). IT is high speed enough that I have no trouble watching movies. I am very happy with what I have and for not having to pay for it!

Got rid of cable years ago.

I would cut the cord in a min if I knew how to get Fox news any other way and the Golf channel, my husband’s love. Anybody know how to get these without cable?

Comcast recently doubled my bill with no option except pay more. They have me for a few more months, but the next place I live will NOT be comcast. They won’t get me back till ATT does something equally stupid to run me off again. They go back and forth.
