Washington (CNN) — A federal grand jury in Washington, DC, on Friday approved the first charges in the investigation led by special counsel Robert Mueller, according to sources briefed on the matter. The charges are still sealed under orders from a federal judge.
Plans were prepared Friday for anyone charged to be taken into custody as soon as Monday, the sources said.
It is unclear what the charges are. A spokesman for the special counsel's office declined to comment.
Mueller was appointed in May to lead the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. Under the regulations governing special counsel investigations, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who has oversight over the Russia investigation, would have been made aware of any charges before they were taken before the grand jury for approval, according to people familiar with the matter.
On Friday, top lawyers who are helping to lead the Mueller probe, including veteran prosecutor Andrew Weissmann, were seen entering the court room at the DC federal court where the grand jury meets to hear testimony in the Russia investigation.
Reporters present saw a flurry of activity at the grand jury room, but officials made no announcements.

Mueller is authorized to investigate "any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation," according to Rosenstein's order.
The special counsel's investigation has focused on potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, as well as obstruction of justice by the President, who might have tried to impede the investigation.
CNN reported that investigators are scrutinizing Trump and his associates' financial ties to Russia. Mueller's team has also examined foreign lobbying conducted by former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, former national security adviser Michael Flynn, and others. His team has issued subpoenas for documents and testimony to a handful of figures...

I’m talking specifically about the anonymous source whose non-disclosure agreement with the U.S. Justice Dept. over the Uranium One story was just waived. His/her lawyer has been all over Sean Hannity’s show telling him that her client would love to get the whole story out in the open.

Manafort may find himself indicted, but I bet some big Dems are, too. I think the President has a good idea of what is about to happen. Call me crazy, but I think the coming storm Trump alluded to a few weeks ago is about to be unleashed, primarily on Democrat criminals.

Tucker Carlson spoke with someone knowledgeable about the Mueller investigation and mentioned that Manafort was a subject of interest because of his working with the Podesta Group on behalf of Russian interests. Since his home was raided by the FBI early in the morning while he was asleep, I suspect that he is the target along with Anthony Podesta.
Well the timing certainly suggests that Manafort is a very active focus for Mueller and the Grand Jury!
I was hoping the indictment(s) referenced by CNN might turn out to be against Obamanators for “unmasking” requests (surely a bunch of indictments in that area are DESERVED), but it seems like Manafort is a likely target at this point.... and possibly Flynn, possibly lesser known players. NOT at all the way it should go, but I don’t share the confidence of some that Mueller will magically be revealed to have been on a mission to take down the Clintonistas and/or Obamanistas.
Uranium One is a distraction. It won’t be investigated, it’s not tied to the Trump-Russia Collusion charges that Mueller is working under. I’d say his whole investigation is looking to tie money trails back to the President for years back. He’ll indict Donald Jr and Jared first to box in the President on any pardons for others. Mueller has been playing multi-dimensional chess.
As news of Manafort’s prior involvement with John Podesta has emerged in recent days, President Trump might actually feel betrayed by him — maybe to the point where he’d be thrilled to see Manafort indicted and imprisoned in a block of ice forever.
I think your characterization of this investigation is completely off base. It might have made sense a few months ago, but with each passing week I’ve gotten more certain that the Trump team was never really the target here.
Typical Dem response is to come up with charges for the other side, in an effort (successful thus far) to dilute their guilt.

I listened to the lawyer of the FBI CI last night on Hannity. She made it sound like it will be a few months (at least) before her witness can speak to congress. Heck, she stated it would take him a few weeks alone to get his documents organized. I expected that the left would use that time to try and contain, scrub, invalidate, and diminish the eventual testimony. I think this is just the beginning of that. I’m just hoping that the CI doesn’t get caught up in this. If I were Mueller, I would try to assassinate his character (through indictment)and even incriminate him if I could. He was told he would be ruined if he testified, by the previous admin, why would that change now with so many of them embedded in the Deep State?
Maybe Manafort tried to play Candidate Trump. I wonder when he was discovered and how long they waited to dismiss him.
