Washington (CNN) A federal grand jury in Washington, DC, on Friday approved the first charges in the investigation led by special counsel Robert Mueller, according to sources briefed on the matter. The charges are still sealed under orders from a federal judge.
Plans were prepared Friday for anyone charged to be taken into custody as soon as Monday, the sources said.
It is unclear what the charges are. A spokesman for the special counsel's office declined to comment.
Mueller was appointed in May to lead the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. Under the regulations governing special counsel investigations, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who has oversight over the Russia investigation, would have been made aware of any charges before they were taken before the grand jury for approval, according to people familiar with the matter.
On Friday, top lawyers who are helping to lead the Mueller probe, including veteran prosecutor Andrew Weissmann, were seen entering the court room at the DC federal court where the grand jury meets to hear testimony in the Russia investigation.
Reporters present saw a flurry of activity at the grand jury room, but officials made no announcements.

Mueller is authorized to investigate "any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation," according to Rosenstein's order.
The special counsel's investigation has focused on potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, as well as obstruction of justice by the President, who might have tried to impede the investigation.
CNN reported that investigators are scrutinizing Trump and his associates' financial ties to Russia. Mueller's team has also examined foreign lobbying conducted by former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, former national security adviser Michael Flynn, and others. His team has issued subpoenas for documents and testimony to a handful of figures...

I find it interesting that Hillary was in Great Britain on her book tour when she “broke her toe”.
Her 2017 fall book tour schedule did not include any overseas dates. There was a gap between Oct. 9 and Oct. 23 and apparently she was to be on the Graham Norton show and had to delay taping. Billy boy was over there too.
I remember thinking at the time that it was very convenient with the Uranium One thing heating up that they were out of the country. Did they ever come back?
The prosecutor who ran in on this is not Mueller, it’s the guy who kicked in Manafort’s door. He has a history of running people’s lives and charges ultimately thrown out on appeal.
Not set in stone. This went before Scotus with nixon but not decided on this point
Ken starr has a memo that lays out why a potus can be indicted
“Must be a dark thing to be dumped on Fri. evening.”
Good point.
There is no way Mueller is going to indict a Clinton crony...They're not even being investigated...
It’s not odd, it stinks to high heaven. Even CNN is commenting how unusual the leak is and that Mueller will be criticized.
There is a lot we don’t know, President Trump ask state department to release all of hillays emails today...
Surly mueller is not so stupid that he just throws out bs on Mandford...I was thinking today something in DC has changed, President Trump is large and in control...
Hillary Clinton could come out and say she ORDERED The murder of Seth Rich and nothing would happen to her..my bet is Manafort gets indicted..maybe the Podesta brothers along with him
I'm starting to think that's the only way to drain the swamp.
Yes and hoping someone takes Trump down in the waiting process that can be realllllly drawn out.
Kankles is the equivalent of Teflon Don John Gotti. Unless someone equivalent to Sammy the Bull Gravano is turned and becomes a protected witness against Kankles, nothing is going to happen to her.
The good news is, Sammy the Bull ‘s testimony eventually took down John Gotti.
It will probably be Manafort. It could be an indication that an indictment will be brought so that the whole thing can be shut down.
And notice it says “Arrests” meaning more than one person..my guess..Manafort and Podesta brothers..that way Mueller can come out and say “Hey I was fair on BOTH SIDES, Manafort is associated with Trump and the Podestas are associated with the Clintons and the DNC” so both end up looking bad and Mueller looks like a straight shooter even though he’s a straight up a-hole
Even CNN is commenting how unusual the leak is and that Mueller will be criticized.
Awesome news...
The confidence level of the MSM has dropped precipitously.
Trump has the goods and is willing to let the chips fall where they may.
Where is Bronco?
Things that make you go hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..CNN knows who the person(or persons) are..if it were Trump people why they saying things like that..you would think they would be having multiple or quadruple orgasms right now..I dont watch CNN well, because I just ate
CNN and the left are planning their last gasp.... The Battle of the Bulge is next for the left. They will come with everything and will leave with nothing but Dutch bicycles...
That's the way the Democraps operate...They have no integrity...They'll do what they have to, to win...
1. The CNN story says these indictments were handed down from a D.C. grand jury.
2. The Flynn investigation was apparently being done through a grand jury in Virginia, since that Federal district has jurisdiction over CIA and national intelligence cases.
3. Boente was working as the U.S. Attorney for the Virginia district, and was assisting Mueller in that aspect of the investigation.
Putting two and two together here, I'm speculating that the CNN story and the Boente resignation tells us two things: (A) the indictments (if there are any) don't involve Flynn; and (B) Boente's resignation (and the lack of any urgency in his departure) may indicate that his work on this case is done, and the Virginia grand jury never handed down any indictments at all.
