The young woman was clearly in earshot when the boss said it to a group of male employees: “That is the kind of ass I would tear up when I was your age.” A male friend of mine quoted it back to me from a moment early in his career, while we were discussing the recent Harvey Weinstein allegations. He didn’t speak up then, and he still doesn’t speak up now when he witnesses sexual harassment in his office.
“I’ve never seen a person actually fired for it,” he says. “It sends a message to the observers, like, ‘All you’re going to do is hit a beehive. There will be no possible benefits for anyone involved.'” Why kick up the dust? Instead, he makes a habit of checking in with female colleagues afterwards to see how they’re doing. “They seem to brush it off. They have to go in knowing that it’s probably going to happen at some point.”
Some women will use accusations of sexual harassment as a weapon of office politics. Be especially careful if it is know that you are a Trump supporter. You will have Leftists looking for excuses to file paperwork on you.

Unfortunately the “right thing” has been clouded with a spray of sensitivity that is bull$hit based. I used to hold the door for women. Usually I got a thank you or a nod but more often these days I get a glare or even some comment like “I can open my own door, asshole.” So, I am/have halting this activity. If they are a mean faced uptight looking a certain way I try to time it so the door closes in their face.
If disparaging remarks based on gender count has harassment, then I know a whole lot of women who should have been fired.

Me, too (coming from the female perspective). If a male co-worker told me, “You’ve got a great set of pegs”, “it made my day”, as you say.
When I began my career in the late ‘60s, going to work was fun. Enter the PC Police. By the time I retired in 2008, you were suurrounded by humorless tight-asses.

This is a good example of collective neurosis. The “ME TOO” stuff has the hysterical set digging back into its collective memory to “remember” times when an evil patriarchal male sexually assaulted an innocent helpless female by patting her on the back or saying “You look nice.”
Same here. I work for a large corporation and have never observed harassment firsthand. It just doesn’t happen anymore. Too risky. The stereotype of men “cat-calling” women in the workplace is so 20th century. Hell, the attractive woman you see strutting down the hallway is likely to be a high level executive. They are not all secretaries and receptionists.

Guys locker room talking out of earshot of ALL females is not sexual harassment. Doing so within earshot of any female can and might be even if that particular female was not the one being “discussed.”
Same here. A little compliment, even a little flirting was harmless. If a man did go too far, we handled it ourselves in a firm, no-nonsense manner. We didn’t have to go sobbing to HR about it.

I know a woman who was quite beautiful when she was in her twenties. But as time marches on the damage it does is plentiful and she said ‘ I’m invisible to men ‘.
She said she so missed the attention and considerations shown to her in her younger days.
Now, in her 50s, it’s gone.
- and for me as well I should add. The only consideration I have received in recent years ( and quite recently ) is from women in need of a green card.

I can relate. The up side to the change is that I don’t feel I have to obsess about how I look every minute of every day. It’s a little like being released from velvet handcuffs.
