A new Gallup poll shows growing support for marijuana legalization, with 64 percent of Americans now in favor of the measure.
The number is the highest level of support in nearly half a century of surveying adults on the issue, according to Gallup. Support has steadily increased in recent years, with the latest figure up 4 percentage points over last year and up 14 points from 2011.
The poll also showed a majority of Republicans favoring legalization for the first time, with 51 percent expressing support. That number is up 9 percentage points from last year, according to Gallup.

The FEDs should back off and leave it up to the states.
The money goes in multiple directions, with financial interests on all sides. I would have liked to have seen the actual question asked. There is a huge difference between Georgia’s cannabis oil for medical use only, and Colorado’s OTC sales.
The article mentions recreational use, but the survey as the article described only referred to legalization.
Interesting, and higher than I would have expected if at all accurate.
Legal pot passed in Colorado with 54%. That was after 12 years of medical pot legality experience.
A state by state polling would be more instructive.
By the way, remember when casino gambling was contentious?
Here are the states where casino gambling is still illegal:
Hawaii, Tennessee, Utah, and Vermont.

I'll almost guarantee that you mention marijuana "legalization" and most people automatically think of medicinal applications.
I actually think the Repub numbers are higher.
Many Repubs don’t want to admit to pollsters publicly or privately they support legalization.

Although certain states have made marijuana legal either for medicine or entertainment, those who use it are federal criminals and can lose certain rights. It can prevent you from purchasing a firearm. It is an automatic fails on the NICS check and that needs to be remedied
And I’ll guarantee most pot smokers only want to get high.

It’s the Libertarian thing to do. May as well legalize cocaine, heroin, crystal meth, LSD, etc.
The war on drugs is worse than THIS drug.
Legalize and go after the pain industry that created the opioid epidemic.
I would not object except for one factor. When the users have toked themselves into befuddled unemployabilty, they will have their habituation called a disease or illness, and sit back collecting a living off of MY tax dollars.
Guarantee to me that it won’t happen and I’ll go along.
I am shocked that Illinois hasn’t legalized it. The carrot of tens of millions in taxes should be irresistible to the Democrat legislature and it could override any veto from the (Republican) governor.

There’s a difference between supporting the legalization of pot and decriminalizing it.
Should simple possession be a felony? Of course not.
Should we have open and Colorado style legalization? Again, of course not.
