George H.W. Bush Apologizes to Actress After She Claims He Sexually Assaulted Her in 2014
US Magazine ^ | 10/25/2017 | Nicholas Hautman

George H.W. Bush apologized to actress Heather Lind after she claimed in a since-deleted Instagram post that he sexually assaulted her at an event in 2014.

Presidential First Children Through the Years “President Bush would never — under any circumstance — intentionally cause anyone distress, and he most sincerely apologizes if his attempt at humor offended Ms. Lind,” the former president’s spokesman Jim McGrath said in a statement to Us Weekly on Wednesday, October 25.

Lind, 34, alleged on Instagram on Tuesday, October 24, that Bush, 93, “sexually assaulted” her during a photo op at a private screening of her AMC series Turn: Washington’s Spies in Houston in 2014. “He didn’t shake my hand. He touched me from behind from his wheelchair with his wife Barbara Bush by his side,” she claimed in the caption of her post. “He told me a dirty joke. And then, all the while being photographed, touched me again. Barbara rolled her eyes as if to say ‘not again.’ His security guard told me that I shouldn’t have stood next to him for the photo.”

Stars Speak Out Against Harvey Weinstein Amid Sexual Misconduct Scandal The Demolition actress continued, “We were instructed to call him Mr. President. It seems to me a President’s power is in his or her capacity to enact positive change, actually help people, and serve as a symbol of our democracy. He relinquished that power when he used it against me. … What comforts me is that I too can use my power, which isn’t so different from a President really. I can enact positive change. I can actually help people. I can be a symbol of my democracy. I can refuse to call him President, and call out other abuses of power when I see them. I can vote for a President, in part, by the nature of his or her character, knowing that his or her political decisions must necessarily stem from that character.”

Lind concluded her post by explaining that she turned to her costars and producers for support after the alleged encounter, adding, “I do not respect [Bush].”

The accusation came after a number of women, including A-listers Angelina Jolie and Gwyneth Paltrow, came forward with sexual harassment and assault claims against Harvey Weinstein. The 65-year-old producer’s spokesperson previously told Us that he denies “any allegations of non-consensual sex.”

Telling a joke, even a dirty one, is not sexual harassment.

Of course it is, what the hell, did you flunk the mandatory sexual harassment training at your place of employment?

Hell, you just said it yourself:

Unwelcome...verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature constitute sexual harassment when this conduct explicitly or implicitly...creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive work environment.

(I deleted the parts that didn't apply)

If telling a joke that someone takes offense to was illegal, all joking would have to stop.

Yeah, all dirty jokes. That's pretty much the way you're supposed to conduct yourself. Even customers can be accused of creating a hostile work environment.

That's how I behave. It seems maybe, you....not so much.

Now I see why I'm required to take that offensive training....thanks a lot.

Yeah there is a big difference.

There are several degrees of sexual assault, and there is also rape.

The law really isn’t hard to understand, that is as long as you aren’t intentionally trying to misunderstand it as you and just about everyone else here clearly is.

If she can be proven to be a liar, then prove it, and sue her. If it can be proven that GHWB committed a sex crime against her, then charge him and try him.

No one gets any special consideration from me.

Can’t say the same for you though.

Apparently since he is a 93 year old ex-president, her allegation isn’t capable of being truthful.

Right? Is that correct?

No, I did not say what you claim I said. You seem to have skipped the part that reads “when this conduct explicitly or implicitly...creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive work environment.”

GHWB wasn’t an employer interacting with an employee. And “constitute sexual harassment when this conduct explicitly or implicitly affects an individual’s employment, unreasonably interferes with an individual’s work performance, or creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive work environment”.

One joke NEVER creates sexual harassment. Your sexual harassment training sucks. Oh no! I wrote “sucks” on the Internet. I’ve sexually harassed millions of women instantly...

Well you must have....I copy/pasted it

Your sexual harassment training sucks.

I agree. Just because I have to constantly view the training, although I've never sexually harassed anyone in my life.

Oh no! I wrote “sucks” on the Internet. I’ve sexually harassed millions of women instantly...

Yes you have. Officer, could you please step over here for a minute....

No. You ignored the part that said “creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive work environment”. You pasted it, but I guess you didn’t READ it.

I had to take sexual harassment training in the military. I also talked to a lawyer (over a few beers) about his work dealing with rape, sexual assault and sexual harassment, and why so many cases fell apart or were never prosecuted. The law isn’t what the Sexual Harassment Preachers pretend it is.

This isn't about the Bush douchebag. This is about a stupid law that criminalizes behavior that in reality doesn't harm anyone. In this disgusting PC world, too many innocent men can be destroyed by a casual or even accidental act.

I have never said I doubted her account of the incident. I do however refuse to believe that this constitutes "sexual assault."

There was a day when a woman would have either shrugged it off with a disgusted look or at most would have slapped his face (either of which he would have deserved, by the way). But to make this a criminal act? Overkill, to say the least.

And the worst part is, it trivializes REAL assaults. When everyone is a victim, no one is a victim.

It doesn’t matter at all what you believe, douchebag.

The law is the law. it says what it says. Don’t like it? Go cry about to your state government, and leave me alone.

And it was a real assault.

What would you have done if grabbed your ass, told you a dirty joke, then grabbed your ass again?

I bet you would have punched him in the face.

Now get out of here with your BS whining.

Aaaaand here’s the old man smacking Teri Hatcher on the derriere.

youtube.com/watch?v=dJZoai2HIeA

This proves only that he has done it in the past, as does the comment from his bodyguard.

The most recent gropee said this happened while they were taking photos, so photos documenting the action will probably be forthcoming.

Do I think his behavior is actionable...hell no. Do I think she should have made a big deal of it....not really. He’s old and could die any second.

But, she’s probably a democrat.

personal insults

Not at all cool with the name-calling, Chris37.
You will note the lack of a comma in IronJack’s earlier post.
He was clearly referring to President George H.W. Bush above.

"...What would you have done if [President Bush] grabbed your ass, told you a dirty joke, then grabbed your ass again? I bet you would have punched him in the face..."

Striking a very elderly person is violent and could easily kill them.
What you propose is an irrational and disproportionate response.
Most savvy people would simply stroll to the hors d'oeuvres table and maintain dignity. This is a wheelchair-bound man in his 90s likely suffering from dementia. It is entirely resolved by walking 36” away.

Now is a good time for the whole awful family to get out of the USA and move to Mexico or to Saudi Arabia, the countries of their actual loyalties.

“This is a wheelchair-bound man in his 90s likely suffering from dementia.”

Got a doctor’s diagnose to prove that?

Didn’t think so.

And I’m not worried about his punctuation, or lack thereof.

If he wants to use derogatory terms while conversing with me, then he can expect me to use them as well.

Furthermore, a 93 year old man fondling a much younger woman is “irrational and disproportionate”, and a bunch of FReepers defending him and attacking her is an “irrational and disproportionate” response, but if you guys want to stick up for an alleged sex offender, be my guest, continue to enable him, and then wonder why our rulers victimize us all non-stop.

*shrug*

Retard “actress” should have kept her mouth shut. Many times in life it is better to say nothing. And the Bush family should have said nothing, not acknowledged this publicity hound.

Go cry about it to “David Cop-a-feel”.

He did it, he knew he did it and he meant to do it.

Are you saying the same thing about those who have spoken out against Harvey Weinstein and Bill Clinton ?
