Hollywood film star Mark Wahlberg said that the film “Boogie Nights” is at the top of the list of movies he has asked God’s forgiveness for at a youth event hosted by the Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago last Friday.

The 1997 hit film, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, featured Wahlberg as porn star Dirk Diggler, and earned several Academy Awards nominations.

Last December, the film star made headlines when he publicly chided “out of touch” Hollywood celebrities who were dissing Donald Trump before the presidential elections, urging them to stick to acting.

He wasn’t in NKOTB. He was Markey Mark and the Fun Bunch. His brother Donnie was a new kid.

They were tough kids from Dorchester. That is arguably the toughest part of Boston. Like a lot of punks, they grew up and stopped acting like fools.

He seems like a decent guy. This movie was decent. It was a pretty sad ending.

I actually liked Boogie Nights. It captured the sleeze, the drugs, the shallowness of both the era and the industry.

it was a great movie! Burt Reynolds was robbed of his Oscar.
and a very good soundtrack of that era.

The Wahlberg’s restaurant, in Hingham,MA, Ama Nove is fabulous. The brother Paul is quite the chef.

Sorry.. I could’ve sworn that the funky bunch and NKOTB joined forces at some point. But I was not a teen then either.

[[That is arguably the toughest part of Boston. Like a lot of punks, they grew up and stopped acting like fools.]]

You bet it was rough- I went there once- and stayed with a couple- they had about 10 bolt locks on the door- and i took a walk one mornin- got back and they were in shock i had gone out alone- it was defiantly culture shock to me- i was naive kid then- didn’t realize how bad the neighborhood was-

Going way back into a foggy corner of my mind, I think they toured together once.

I used to work in the cable business and I was getting some personal items framed. They were movie posters I had gotten from HBO. The framer saw I had a NKOTB concert poster. He traded me all of the framing work I was having done for that Poster. He framed it up to give to his 13 year old daughter.

I did not “get it then” and I don’t get it still. But then again, I did not get it when it was the Beatles either.

I started watching BN last night because of this thread. So far so good. The characters are not one dimensional and damn if it doesn’t look like the San Fernando Valley where I grew up. They nailed the period. The shirts. Lol “genuine Italian polyester.”

This....

So if I go to Karaoke night, invariably someone dials up this song to sing. All I can think of this scene, haha. Luckily nobody strips down to their underwear.

I’m 48 and some would say still a punk. A black kid in Sam’s parking lot probably 20 years my junior pissed me off with a stare when I was going through the crosswalk. I parked, walked right over to his car, and right up to him.
“Whatchu want”
Me: I said I was sorry for whatever pissed you off at the crosswalk. And I figured I’d walk over and take it back, you don’t deserve it.
I start walking towards Sam’s.
“You better walk away”
Me: Or what MFer?? Turned around and slowly walked away.

If someone walked up and didn’t know the whole story they’d say I was a punk. Whereas to me I just like to send a little message that not all of us are pushovers.
