NEW YORK — Within the next three decades, floods that used to strike the New York City area only once every 500 years could occur every five years, according to a new scientific study released just days before the fifth anniversary of Superstorm Sandy.

The study, performed by researchers at several universities and published Monday in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, primarily blames the predicted change on sea-level rise caused by global warming.

“This is kind of a warning,” said Andra Garner-Wanker, a Rutgers University scientist and study co-author. “How are we going to protect our coastal infrastructure?”

The researchers based their analysis on multiple models that factored in predictions for sea level rise and possible changes in the path of future hurricanes.

“Scientists” know that “Global Warming” stopped in 1933, and we have had continuous cooling ever since.

Don’t be fooled.

Sea levels have been falling since the mid ‘80s.

That is the main reason that the NGVD ‘29 elevation datum was abandoned in favor of a flakey, imprecise sattelite based datum that can be manipulated at will.

I saw a guy yesterday wearing a t shirt that said SCIENCE is not political. I didn’t want to draw him into a conversation but “science” is a method. It isn’t political. It is a way to conduct experiments. A way to gather data.
Technically, even fudging data (by selective input, say) isn’t in itself political, either, because the fudger could have personal reasons that are not political.

The political part comes in ANALYZING and DRAWING CONCLUSIONS.

Why don’t people get that? Making projections and drawing definitive conclusions could definitely be political.

In July, more people drown than in any other month.
In July, more people eat ice cream than in any other month.
There are a variety of conclusions and projections that could be made from that “science,” yet not all of them are correct.

Every five years, huh? I wonder where these “scientists” will be in five years? You know, so they can be asked where the flood is.....
