FROM ONE MEAN MOM
We had the meanest mother in the whole world! While other kids ate candy for breakfast, we had to have cereal, eggs, and toast. When others had a Pepsi and a Twinkie for lunch, we had to eat sandwiches. And you can guess our mother fixed us a dinner that was different from what other kids had, too. Mother insisted on knowing where we were at all times. You'd think we were convicts in a prison. She had to know who our friends were, and what we were doing with them. She insisted that if we said we would be gone for an hour, we would be gone for an hour or less. We were ashamed to admit it, but she had the nerve to break the Child Labor Laws by making us work. We had to wash the dishes, make the beds, learn to cook, vacuum the floor, do laundry, and all sorts of cruel jobs. I think she would lie awake at night thinking of more things for us to do. She always insisted on us telling the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. By the time we were teenagers, she could read our minds. Then, life was really tough! Mother wouldn't let our friends just honk the horn when they drove up. They had to come up to the door so she could meet them. Everyone else could date when they were 12 or 13
.we had to wait until we were 16. Because of our mother we missed out on lots of things other kids experienced. None of us have ever been caught shoplifting, vandalizing other's property, or ever arrested for any crime. It was all her fault. We never got drunk, took up smoking, stayed out all night, or a million other things other kids did. Sundays were reserved for church, and we never missed once. We knew better than to ask to spend the night with a friend on Saturdays. Now that we have left home, we are all God-fearing, educated, honest adults. We are doing our best to be mean parents just like Mom was. I think that is what's wrong with the world today...it just doesn't have enough mean moms anymore.

Love of Another Kind
October 22, 2017
My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.
John 15:12
One of my favorite churches started several years ago as a ministry to ex-prisoners who were transitioning back into society. Now the church flourishes with people from all walks of life. I love that church because it reminds me of what I picture heaven will be likefilled with different kinds of people, all redeemed sinners, all bound together by the love of Jesus.
Sometimes, though, I wonder if church seems more like an exclusive club than a safe haven for forgiven sinners. As people naturally gravitate into groups of a certain kind and cluster around those they feel comfortable with, it leaves others feeling marginalized. But thats not what Jesus had in mind when He told His disciples to love each other as I have loved you (John 15:12). His church was to be an extension of His love mutually shared with all.
If hurting, rejected people can find loving refuge, comfort, and forgiveness in Jesus, they should expect no less from the church. So lets exhibit the love of Jesus to everyone we encounterespecially those who are not like us. All around us are people Jesus wants to love through us. What a joy it is when people unite to worship together in lovea slice of heaven we can enjoy here on earth!
Lord, remind me today that while I was a sinner You embraced me with Your deep and unconditional love and brought me into the fellowship of Your grace. Lead me to someone I can love as You loved me.
Share Christs love with another.
Have you ever wondered how Jesus could command His disciples to love anyone? How can you force people of varying backgrounds and interests to care for one another?
Such instruction probably wont make sense until we understand what kind of a king Jesus wasand what kind of relationship He had with His Father. He wasnt saying, Ill love you if you love me. Thats not the way His relationship with His Father worked. He knew His Father loved Him. When He loved and obeyed His Fathers commands, it was because Jesus knew and listened to His Fathers heart. In the Spirit of our God, we love our Kingand one anotherbecause He first loved us (1 John 4:19).

Good evening, Mayor, and thank you for today’s sustenance for body and soul.
A Blessed Lord’s Day to you and yours.
We had a gentle, unexpected, snow today....not much, but everything is white. Next week...rain all week.

We DID have an adventurous day! We combined two trails (The Hanover Colby/Phillips Trail and the Rockland rail Trail) and must have done 4-5 miles of woodland hiking. The leaves are turning and the aroma of the forest was heavenly.
It is so nice tonight, I am taking the Bike to my sister’s gig. If she asks me to sing, I will just use her guitar.

I did not, Kathy. I got diverted by Football. Since I am boycotting NFL, College Football is all I have left.

I didn’t know we were related, having had the same mother. (Joking of course). My mom, long since passed, was just like the one in your post.

Dear God: I ask that no Airman, Coast Guardsman, Marine, Sailor, Soldier, Reservist, National Guardsman, or Merchant Marine feel alone or forgotten.
O Israel, hope in the Lord; For with the Lord there is loving kindness, And with Him is abundant redemption. And He will redeem Israel From all his iniquities.

A good diversion...who do you like?
I’m watching Penn State and Michigan. I ditched the NFL several years ago when they so blatantly went PC. This year means I never go back. Die, NFL, die!!
