Oct. 19 (UPI) -- A New Jersey family who took their dog to be euthanized were shocked to discover five months later that the canine was alive and living with a veterinary worker.
Keri and Lonnie Levy said they took their 15-year-old miniature pinscher, Caesar, to be euthanized May 17 at the Briarwood Veterinary Hospital because he was suffering from a long-term illness that left him in declining health with a poor quality of life.
"[Keri] picked up the collar. And actually paid her bill and received, even, a letter from the veterinary offices stating their condolences on the loss of her pet," Ross Licitra, head of the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, told WPIX-TV.

Is the Vet Tech still collecting the dog’s Social Security checks?
‘Animal theft’??? Oh just honestly. He kept the dog alive out of compassion; the vet paid the family the money. Really?? This is a big deal??
Isn’t this the same as dumping your old computer at a town dropoff, then finding out the guy took it home and used it for a few months?
Don’t see the issue here.
So I see they didn’t stick around to see their dog off to the Other Side.
‘Cuz that’s what your supposed to do.
Oh well, live and learn.
I’m not a dog person, but mini pinschers can be awfully cute. I’ve also have known some pretty sickly dogs who acted happy to be alive.
Cuz thats what your supposed to do.
No kidding. They weren't concerned enough to spend the final moments with the dog, why be concerned now?
I’m surprised that the owner didn’t want to be with the dog to comfort it as it passed.
The couple contacted police Monday about the anonymous tip, and police ordered the vet tech to return Caesar to the Levys. They said they were able to spend some time with the dog before he was finally euthanized.
So this family expended the effort to track down the dog to put him down, but couldn’t spend 30 minutes of their day to be with the dog the 1st time when they had him put down. Weird.
I had to have a favorite cat put down, but couldn’t stand to take him in and so had a mobile vet come and do it.
Heartbreaking, but still much easier. Though even thinking about it is still painful.
Putting down a family dog can be very tough. I could see someone having great difficulty facing it. I am trying to be charitable here.
No idea.
The hardest day of my life was spent in front of my Shepherd, Grainger, when he had to be put down because of a petite mal seizure that he could not be brought out of.
It crushed me. I wanted to go with him. make a second shot and give it to me.
I have no sympathy for these people at all.
I am well acquainted with a MinPin and although they can be feisty, willful and hard to train, they are very cute and have lots of personality.
Putting down a treasured member of your family isn’t for the feint of heart. I held my dog while they administered the injection and then proceeded to wail like a banshee when she was gone. They had to usher us out the back door cuz I was so distraught.
So you let him die in the company of and at the hands of strangers?
No.
Never.
Same exact thing with me when my first one passed, I was crying so much my shirt looked like someone had thrown a glass of water on me, and they let me out the never used side door. Second one is getting up there, can’t think about it.
Much cheaper to do it like the big guy in Reno 911. Cry until the police officer shoots your dog for you as your hAve noone to pUT the dog to sleep... and then when the neighbor lady comes out, he told her that she should have kept her dog out of his yard.
So, the dog’s owners paid to have him killed and were upset enough to find out that they hadn’t succeeded, to track him down, have the authorities seize him and return him to them, and then succeeded in killing him the second time?
And the poor little guy was still happy to see them, I’ll bet.
Creepy people.
I know that is completely inappropriate, but pretty funny!
The dog got a few more months of life. Lotta wagging. Lotta care that only a vet knows how to give.
It turned out well.
Now, turning to the sinister part of man’s nature. Change this to BABY. Human baby. Mother goes to clinic for abortion. Clinic doesn’t kill the baby, and instead puts it up for adoption. Baby goes to loving home, grows up happy.
What is the reaction of militant man-hating feminazis? right. They go crazy with anger and hate. Am I right? Is that what feminazis would do? Or would they applaud the clinic for giving the baby a chance at life?
