Bill O'Reilly told Newsmax TV on Thursday that the controversy surrounding President Donald Trump's remarks to a Gold Star widow "looks to me to be a set-up" by Florida Democratic Rep. Frederica Wilson.
"The thing that disturbs me is Congresswoman Wilson," O'Reilly told host John Bachman on "Newsmax Now" in an interview. "They were given a 24-hour day.
"The family of the fallen Army Sgt. [La David] Johnson, who was a Green Beret, was given 24-hour notice that President Trump would call.
"They gave that information to Congresswoman Wilson, who is an anti-Trump hater and has been from the jump," O'Reilly said. "Also, she voted against all of the bills that would help the military.
"She knew the call was coming in, she was in the car when President Trump reached the widow, Myeshia Johnson, 24 years old," he told Bachman.
"Then, she goes out on CNN and says, 'The president insulted Mrs. Johnson, made her cry.'
"This looks to me to be a set up," O'Reilly concluded. "It really does."
He noted Wilson, a four-term representative, had told reporters she only heard a portion of the call between Mrs. Johnson and Trump.
"That's impossible," he told Bachman. "If you were on a speakerphone in a car with the widow, which you were, you would have had to have heard the whole call."
O'Reilly said he was not surprised White House chief of staff John Kelly or press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders would say President Trump's condolences were respectful.
"But I believe that you are innocent until proven guilty," he said. "And, I know Donald Trump.
"I know he respects military people, so why on earth would a sitting president call a widow — just lost her husband in Niger — and insult her?
"It's impossible. It's inconceivable.
"Now, a choice or words or something like that, OK," he added, "but that's picayune."
O'Reilly said the negative coverage reflected the media's continuing efforts to "denigrate Mr. Trump.
"Nobody knows what was said. The press does not know.
"The press doesn't know — and, yet, you turn it on the television set, it's the worst kind of hatred," he said.
"This is what a continuation of what the American people have to deal with from the press.
"They're taking Ms. Wilson's word for it," O'Reilly told Bachman. "They're not taking Gen. Kelly's word for it, who says there wasn't anything inappropriate.
"They're taking Wilson's. Why? Because they hate Trump.
"Everybody knows what the game is."
I actually lived in Picayune, Mississippi for a year.
Never let your enemy listen in on your phone call to anyone. You may be of good intention, but your enemy will still stab you in the back at every opportunity.
Maybe, but she misspelled her good friends name in a tweet to POTUS bragging about how well she knew the family.
He was airborne, not Special Forces.
Point is that the two were on the speakerphone _together_ likely by specific arrangement. Whatever the sequence of events, arrangements were made to ensure Wilson was there. Maybe Wilson was notified of the incoming call, but she still had to figure out how to be in the same room*, and likely shoved her schedule around hard to do so.
* - I’m struck by the fact that the call was taken in a _car_. If you knew (with 24 hour notice) that the President was going to call, would you seriously be in a CAR taking the call? on SPEAKERPHONE?
Ask Richard Nixon how Presidents recording their own conversations works out.
Ms. Wilson is not only an embarrassment to Florida and her race, but the United States Congress. Where does she get the big bucks for all those costumes and hats she wears? Is she independently wealthy?
Along with Kaepernick and the rest of the NFL players, Frederica Wilson has lowered her/their reputation and citizenship's into a pile of trash no other country would tolerate.
We now have two Negro women vying for the Queen of Mean, Waters and Wilson....frankly, I don't care to pay their salaries any more, they have humiliated their nation enough...Vote them out of office!! 1
Of course it was a set up. Trump has not been in a controversy, real or imagined, for a couple of months. It was time for the swamp to try and keep the President on the defensive. The only question is who set Trump up. My money is on Kelly, despite his eloquent press conference performance. The whole performance seemed to perfect for me. Is Kelly the Chief of Staff or is be the Chief Jailor?
What gets me is here is a young black man that made special forces. Not an easy task. His dedication and honor has not even been mentioned. Shame on them all.
So it was Gen. Kelly who called Wilson?
Total set up, disgraceful.
Wilson is launching her run for the 2020 Democrat Nomination.
By all appearances she is kooky enough to get it.

they were in a limo...the widow, the mother and Wilson could have all been in there together...
were they just sitting in the limo so that nobody else could overhear the call and contradict what was said ???
or in the limo travelling to something etc ???
they knew what hour President Trump would call...it was easy to set this up...
they might have even received the call at their own chosen time...
all three in the back seat the window between them and the driver up so only they could hear the president...
if there was to be an audience its strange that the widow didn’t have other family members and friends and neighbors there...a call from a president is an exciting and rare occurrence...
either widow would choose to be alone to hear the call or would invite others to hear President Trump also...why did the widow need Wilson to be there ???
as for the speaker phone...I notice Wilson didn’t insist the speaker be turned off so that the call could be personal...of course she was listening in, overhearing, snooping...
and Wilson having yuks and laughing about the situation ??? 4 heroes died ...whats so funny about their deaths ??? that’s what this is all about after all...
here’s a thought...when President trump first started to speak, Wilsom might have opened her big fat ugly mouth and spoke during the call...the others might not have heard the rest of his words...
Wilson could put her own spin on what he was saying...

Wilson is an opportunist. And yes, she must have been invited to hear the call. I wonder if the widow will speak out.
Didn’t the Trump’s press conferance, where the press stated he said “Obama never called” occur just before this suppose phone call controversy? If so, I say it was a complete setup by the democrat party to try and turn this into a scandal.
