NFL says players don't need to stand for the anthem. Trump and only Trump called them on it and said players should stand.

Now at least one NFL team is apologizing. This is probably not a sincere apology. They are just worried about empty seats.

''This was an oversight and certainly not intended to send a message that would disparage you, our flag or our nation,''

There was no "oversight", and the Jags are of course lying to cover up what they really cannot.

Apology, if you want to call it that, is not acceptable.

(Full disclosure, I'm not from the Jag's local area, and I do not speak for the Vets for whom the alleged apology was given.)

The Jaguar President needs to resign—if he is serious about his apology.

Actions speak louder than words.

Meaningless unless it comes from the kneeling players.

I’m a soon to be former season ticket holder for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Mark Lamping is just a lackey. Shad Khan, the owner, is directly responsible for supporting the protest in London. Khan needs to apologize and grovel for forgiveness to the citizens and veterans of Jacksonville. I think the Jaguar organization was shocked at the empty seats at first home game since the London debacle and the full impact of their stupidity has hit home.

Khan has squandered away all the good will he was afforded from the citizens of Jacksonville. Trust and respect once lost is “very” difficult to win back. I think the NFL has dug a very deep hole and it will be hard to climb out...

the team was ''remiss in not fully comprehending the effect of the national anthem demonstration foreign soil has had on the men and women who have or continue to serve out country on the income and finances of the players, team and league .''

1. First, show us your sincerity by a 20 million donation split between the FL PBA and a 501c for families of FL veterans KIA.

2. Then, invite Floridian and veteran Allen West to speak to the team and front office about the lie in which Kaepernick’s protest is built on, and how the actions of the NFL and the other teams remain an insult to Americans who pay the taxes and fight the wars, and have long since moved on concerning racial relationships..

3. Then, schedule the team and front office in right alongs with the Jacksonville Police Department or county sheriff.

Until then fck off. The adults are in charge now.

Well golly, the team President sent a letter...

Here’s a question for him: What exactly motivated you to send this now? It’s been a few weeks. Did the days of navel gazing finally result in the epiphany that his team and owner insulted the country that has provided so much for them? Or was it crapatastic realization that your brand has been diminished and fans are ignoring you? Just curious. . .

This is exactly what I wanted. An apology.

Unlike others here at FreeRepublic I don't want the NFL to go away.

It can be fun and entertaining. I won't put up with any disrespect for our country or its people.

But I will accept their apology and hope things improve.

However, who in God’s green earth would not think that it would be a problem kneeling during the U.S. National Anthem while played at a foreign country, but yet, stand for that nation’s anthem?
