University of Mississippi to rebuild Confederate statue despite student protest

The University of Mississippi is replacing a Confederate statue on campus which was damaged by a pickup truck last month. Now, students are outraged after learning that the Confederate statue on the Oxford campus will be rebuilt.

Ole Miss student groups are coming together to protest the forthcoming restoration. The University of Mississippi NAACP chapter released a statement in collaboration with the Students Against Social Injustice (SASI) in which they lambasted Ole Miss for their decision to fix the damaged statue instead of retiring the controversial artwork.

“The repair and continued display of this monument by the University of Mississippi will be viewed as a disregard for the safety and inclusion of Black students, staff, and faculty,” the two student groups conveyed in the statement.

JoJo Brown, president of the Ole Miss NAACP, said the statue’s presence on campus is “not a good look.”

How long before the admin knuckles under? Stick by your history and proceed. The students that are all balled up in a fetal position can find another school. A much safer school with fuzzy blankets and teddy bears to be handed out.

Saftey of the students.

I can understand that. Ramming into a massive metal structure wcanhile intoxicated could be a saftey risk.

My daughter is an Ole Miss student. She told me a few days ago they have already repaired the statue. I’m shocked it hasn’t already been removed. However, on the whole, the students and alumni are conservative, so the administration is in a tough spot.

Lovely. We are heading towards a society where the screaming loudmouth or the violent anarchist...wins.
We have as much chance of seeing this historic statue restored as we do of finding a winning million dollar lottery ticket on the ground.

...students are outraged...

I call bullshit.

Some students are outraged...notably those from out of state and of a particular ethnic origin holding membership cards in particular associations from which white folks are excluded from joining.

Tell the truth...lying media.

They want to deny the past to feel good about their own racism. The Lees (Robert E. Leek and family) Saved a lot of important items from Union looters at Mount Vernon.

Exactly. My daughter is outraged that some want to remove a statue that honors her Confederate ancestors. In fact, she’s named for one of those Confederates. However, her roommate is a Yankee, supposedly a conservative, who can’t understand why the statue is still standing.

A handful of racist student claim to be outraged. It the tyranny of the minority again. The Nazis were a tyrannical minority when they took power. Soros knows, he was there.

While they’re at it, they can bring back Colonel Reb and let the band play “From Dixie with Love” again.

Looking at the picture of the statue, it appears to be that of an ordinary private trying to see what’s coming at him. So, what we have here is the Left continuing to claim they are for the common person while doing their best to demean said people.

They have already managed to get rid of Colonel Reb, The Battle Flag and “From Dixie with Love” which was a compromise when they had the band stop playing “Dixie”. It's amazing what power 13% of a population possess.
