NFL player protests during the national anthem continued this week, defying pleas by Commissioner Roger Goodell and some team owners to have everyone stand for the song.
While fewer teams had mass protests this week than in the early games, some players still kneeled, while others stayed in the locker room for the pre-game national anthem. The prior protests have sparked fan outrage and might have hurt television ratings, with some angry observers and at least one sponsor vowing to boycott the league in a counter-protest.
A meeting is set this coming week between NFL management, ownership, and the NFL Players Association to discuss ways to curtail the demonstrations and channel the player passions. It is at least the third such meeting, but none have completely ended the protests.
So far, no mandate on standing during the national anthem has been issued. But the Commissioner has indicated that players should stand, and several owners have indicated their displeasure at the activism. Most notably, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, head of the franchise nicknamed Americas Team, has threatened to bench players who protest during the anthem.
But players such as Los Angeles Chargers offensive tackle Russell Okung have encouraged their fellow athletes not to cave to demands that they curb protests.

Black Lives Matter and other domestic terrorist groups, funded by George Soros, continue to use the NFL as their playground to sow propaganda and division.
The ratings from yesterday should come out later today.
The last tabulation I read was that ratings are down overall 18% from 2015 - the year before the protests began.
Remember: the entire "police brutality" narrative is based on lies and twisted facts.
The NFL is discovering that upwards of 20% of its fan base has left, and it wonders if it can ever get them back.

It takes awhile for such a huge ship to turn. So, it may be next season when we see what happens with ticket sales and advertiser rates, etc. if these revenue streams are down significantly then eventually it will be reflected in reduced player contracts. That’s when the light bulb will come on for the idiots. Maybe, sarc/
NFL will not ever fully recover. Even if they stopped disrespecting our nation, our flag, and our anthem, they wont ever be able to erase that they dont like America.
Nothing at all is preventing them from leaving.
Too bad a great business model has been minimized via sedition. Seems owners would take quick action.. but media created a distorted view for them to use in making decisions. Theyre a major part of the problem of course.
I was at an AHL hockey game yesterday and a friend asked if I knew what the Steelers game was.
I explained that I quit watching the NFL. As a veteran I support anyone’s use of their First Amendment rights.
And as a veteran I am deeply offended by their protest and will use my First Amendment rights to protest this despicable attack on the American Anthem and flag.
I will not watch any NFL games this year - possibly ever again.
I further told him that as far as I’m concerned, the NFL can go to Hell! His wife was listening to me rant and at the end she smiled and said, “Amen to that!”
The protest has no basis.
People made rich by world standards via our social welfare system are not oppressed.
Police shootings are 2x more likely against minorities but minorities are 50x more likely to engage in crime while armed with a gun.
At the rate the anti-American NFL is going, they’ll have to scrape the barrel to come up with SUPER BOWL RINGS.
I believe that this week the contract talks for advertising in 2018 starts. As it stands right now, 20% of expected revenues from advertising will be the high mark for the NFL. Then how will season ticket sales drop because of those who will not renew their annual contracts that were already bought and paid for before this season started?
I suspect that all serious advertisers will be delaying any final contracts until the number of renewals is starting to trend, just as the TV rating will also continue to fall will delay any advertisers from making any deal early, if at all..
stop watching and let them sink
The NFL Kneelers are kneeling in subservience to their liberal masters. Let them kneel. I’m not watching.
Like Mandolay Bay is fading, so too is NFL dissatisfaction.
Only a week ago I saw the numbers in the thirties regarding the percentage of disgruntled NFL fans.
Now, unless it is ALL disinformation, we're in the teens.
While surfing TV yesterday, I came across a patriots game and the first thing my eyes saw was the stands ... they appeared full.
I stayed long enough to observe, I had no idea where the game was being played because the logo in the center of the feild said NFL, not whatever home team was hosting the game .... and again, the stands were full.
I continued surfing until I found a movie that interested me.
So this morning I read fan base is down to the upper teens.
I don't know WHAT to think except Mandolay Bay is fading into the distance, the NFL is very pro-active in trying to recover and my local public high school treats the pledge of allegiance to the flag as an elective.
My little redneck high school has been churning out Colin Kapernicks for the last five (that I KNOW of) years and the school board will do nothing about it..
Has anyone asked the concessions people what they think of the whole thing?
And don’t buy their merchandise; Giants Stadium has a flea market in the lot every Saturday, and you can pick up a hat for $5 (and they won’t see a penny of it - Red Chinese counterfeit crap).
I can’t recall even one of my bosses ever “pleaing” with me to do anything.
If they want to show how detached these semi-literate jocks are from real American people, that is OK with me. I see no Americans kneeling there.
Already there from the moment the Jaguars did what they did in London. Not been back and not going back. Got free Sunday Ticket because of going back to DirectTV from cable and even the free has been cancelled so they don’t get any residual credit for it.
The people who this whole thing affects the most are the up and coming college kids who were banking on getting into the NFL to get their ticket punched. Now they’ll have to start falling back on whatever they may have been taught with many worthless degrees to get an IT executive job at Equifax just because they have a degree.
Doesn’t matter if they can pour piss out of a boot with directions on the heel, but just that they have a degree.
Great add-on to the discussion. How many of those will pull their little carts and such next year. The stadium sponsorship contracts are also at peril as they come for renewal.
-————Remove the “National” from NFL, just call them “FL.”
... perhaps these professional athletic teams should remove the N from the NFL and just be FL - thus removing their obligation to observe our patriotism. They cant have it both ways, its one or the other.
However, I wont be watching any overpaid professional sports. I prefer to go out and cheer for heros who are busy saving lives everyday and they comparably are grossly underpaid. Why do we pay athletes and actors million dollar salaries but only pay a first responder, whos performing CPR on someones chest and is saving another humans life, a meager salary?
Perhaps they should go "back to the future" and set up an all-black league.
coddling spoiled children is how we got here
Totally disgusting that there are still some fans left in the NFL. They must have no respect for themselves or this great country.
