Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) says the federal assault weapons ban that lapsed in 2004 would have prevented the Las Vegas attack, had that ban still been in force today.
This claim shows a deep misunderstanding of the assault weapons ban, which did not ban the possession or purchase of assault weapons. Rather, it limited importation and mandated types that could be manufactured in the U.S., thus driving up prices. For a man of means like Stephen Paddock, paying the higher price for an assault weapon would have been no problem.

And the 89 killed along with 400+ wounded in Nice France by a TRUCK
Lets ban swimming pools because some one heard some ones head underwater
Another ignorant and uninformed worthless politician.
“A semi-auto AR with a cheap 7X scope, some basic training beyond spray and pray, would have killed double or triple that amount, with less wounded.”
I’ve tried to explain this to several people and failed. A demented version of Carlos Hathcock or Chris Kyle in a decent hide and a bolt action with good optics could have killed far more.
No. He’d have blown up that stuff in his trunk or he’d have started a fire in the hotel after blocking all the stairwells. Or a dozen other things.
Yeah, except one doesn’t have to have near the capability of Hatchcock. A zeroed true rifle and understanding of how to apply the rifleman’s cadence...........that is it.
Evil people are just evil, Maybe we should have a national religion that shuns evil.
Suck on that Demtards
If only Prohibition was still in effect every DWI death in the past 85 years would have been prevented!
50 lbs of tannerite would make big boom but the ONLY way to detonate it is a supersonic rifle round..
Meanwhile all over the world good CARING people strap their precious kids into the car seat over 25 ga of gasoline and barrel 70 MPH down the road.
Very few of them decide to use that to kill
I am all about freedom but sometimes I think we need testing laws because the majority are to dumb to use the technology responsibly.
Life is like “You pay your money and you take your chances”
For totalitarians to gain control of the people they must do two things first: (1) Take over the media; and (2)disarm the people. They all now this, and they all subscribe to it.
In the U.S. they are close to realizing the first element, and are thoroughly committed to achieving the second. This will result in a civil war, without any doubt.
Not true, an ordinary detonator (blasting cap) will set it off or if you want to improvise, a couple of grams of lead azide will also work
They could pass a law making it a crime to fire a gun from tall buildings within the city limits. That would fix things, for sure. /sarc
texting laws
blasting cap = supersonic impact, and they are highly regulated.
Can’t get them at the hardware store
Or a law against MURDER.
Nevada has the death penalty.
Gary Gilmour chose the firing squad.
Ooops.. Utah.
Grandstanding ahole
Yes they know quite well that nothing they propose will stop mass murderers. That is not nor has it ever been their goal. Their goal is an America where only the police and military have access to firearms. Any rhetoric that advances that goal is good. Any chance to seize upon the emotion of the brain dead masses who are also incapable of logic (and if you look at the number of Hillary voters you'll see that there are a lot of them) is also touted out at every opportunity.
If anyone thinks that Democrats are appalled at mass shootings you are mistaken. They are overjoyed every time one happens. Before the smoke has blown away they're dancing in the blood of the victims touting gun control ban this, register that all with the ultimate goal of total civilian disarmament in mind.
Hmmm. Maybe Pence is behind it.
Gilmour——Utah
NO LAW that you can make up in your brain can stop a lawbreaker from action. PERIOD.
True, but one can improvise, subborn or steal if one is so inclined to commit much worse crimes.
