Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) says the federal “assault weapons” ban that lapsed in 2004 would have prevented the Las Vegas attack, had that ban still been in force today.
This claim shows a deep misunderstanding of the “assault weapons” ban, which did not ban the possession or purchase of “assault weapons.” Rather, it limited importation and mandated types that could be manufactured in the U.S., thus driving up prices. For a man of means like Stephen Paddock, paying the higher price for an “assault weapon” would have been no problem.

A semi-auto AR with a cheap 7X scope, some basic training beyond spray and pray, would have killed double or triple that amount, with less wounded.
Yeah, assault weapons bans really worked well in Paris, France on November 13, 2015 when 130 were killed by suicide bombers and shooters, 89 at the Eagles of Death Metal show alone by ISIS terrorists wielding “banned” AK47s.
Do not deceive yourself, the vast majority of dims know this is the ultimate goal, and it's a prerequisite for total control.

Well senator - the ban DID expire and we’ve been stocking up like crazy for over 20 years just in case you would try something that tyrannical again. There are easily 60 million semi-auto sporting rifles out there alone and most are owned by people who would die before they would ever turn them over. Your move.
