The indigenous peoples who populated the New World prior to the arrival of Europeans were arguably even worse than the hated white men who eventually conquered them, in terms of civility and wanton violence toward their enemies.
Indeed, far from things like slavery and genocide being introduced to the continent by Columbus and his successors, such acts of atrocity were already occurring widely among the various warring tribes of natives, who routinely enslaved, tortured, ritualistically slaughtered and even feasted upon their defeated enemies.
Thats right many indigenous peoples practiced cannibalism upon those they had conquered and oppressed. Is that really what leftists want to celebrate? Dont answer that.
Long before the white European knew a North American continent existed, Indians of the Northern Plains were massacring entire villages, explained George Franklin Feldman, author of the book Cannibalism, Headhunting and Human Sacrifice in North America: A History Forgotten.
And not just killed, but mutilated, Feldman added. Hands and feet were cut off, each bodys head was scalped, the remains were left scattered around the village, which was burned.
Tony Seybert, author of Slavery and Native Americans in British North America and the United States: 1600 to 1865, noted that the practice of slavery was already well-established in America prior to its discovery and subsequent settlement by the Europeans.
According to the eyewitness testimony of a Jesuit missionary named Father Barthelemy Vimont, who observed the Iroquois peoples in 1642, captives of the tribe had their fingers or hands cut off, were skinned alive and tortured for hours on end, then were scalped and mutilated in front of everyone.

I grew up around Choctaws in Mississippi. Decent enough people.
Norseman did that too

I have heard that before.
Not sure it's a matter of bragging. Certainly not in my case. I am 1/32 cherokee and it has been quite a wild ride trying to identify those Cherokee ancestors. But what I have found through my research has been quite interesting.
How can a race survive a genocide like that?
A look at ancient history shows these things happened everywhere...Huns, Vikings, early English, Germania, Spain...
Depends on the tribe
Cherokee generally were willing to integrate and adopt ideas from the European new comers. They lived in harmony, generally, with those around them

After reading Eckert’s The Frontiersmen I realized that no one had cornered the market on barbarity back then. All sides committed unspeakable acts.
There were tribes that were pure warrior. They raided and stole and killed...Not a lot different than the Vikings
Not all tribes were the same. Not good to paint with too broad a brush

The above picture depicts Mushulatubbee who was a Chief of the Choctaw. It was painted by the famous artist George Catlin (1796-1872) in 1838. The chief wore European-style clothing, as worn by many of the southeastern tribes with a decorative sash around his waist. Mushulatubbee led his warriors to assist General Andrew Jackson in the Creek War, also known as the Red Stick War (18131814).
What was the lifestyle and culture of the Choctaw tribe?
The Choctaw tribe are descendants of the people of the Mississippian culture, who built earthwork mounds at their villages located throughout the Mississippi River valley (refer to the Natchez Tribe for more facts). The Choctaw people established villages across the Deep South and used dugout canoes to travel and trade with many other tribes. Their numbers diminished due to the diseases brought by the Europeans including the Spanish, French and British. They allied with both the French and Americans against the British. Following the War of Independence the ‘civilizing programs’ began. The Choctaw fought under Andrew Jackson in the Creek War (18131814). Many Creeks adopted European practises such as European style dress, housing and farming techniques but despite this and their loyalty to the Americans they were sent to reservations. The Choctaw tribe became known as one of the Five Civilised Tribes who also included the Cherokee, Creek, Chickasaw and Seminoles tribes.

pulling out all of their intestines.......I believe that was the Piaute. Probably others Too.
Not really. Just people. Their culture accepted this as normal. Just as the Europeans accepted the verdict of the Inquisition to burn heretics as the stake. No more savage than believing slavery was a viable economic system. No more violent or cruel than the English sentence for treason.
Adama culled the neanderthals, white men cull the savages.
Most tribes east of the Mississippi River were non-nomadic...
Western tribes were somewhat forced to be nomadic because of their environment and food sources.
It is because Columbus discovered them that their history became known to the World. The Inca and Aztec Empires existed at the same time, roughly 500 miles apart, but knew nothing of each other. They had no trade, nor any other communication. The only thing that they shared was being conquered by the Spanish. If they had not been, they would probably have collapse without anyone else ever knowing about them.
