Emma Thompson is joining a chorus of famous actresses condemning Harvey Weinstein in the wake of the many allegations of sexual assault and harassment leveled against him.
Thompson, who starred in a handful of films produced by Weinsteins company, including 2008′s Brideshead Revisited, said she had no previous knowledge of his actions, but is not entirely surprised.
I didnt know about these things, but they dont surprise me at all and theyre endemic to the system anyway, Thompson told BBC Newsnight. What I find sort of extraordinary is that this man is at the top of a very particular iceberg.
I dont think you can describe him as a sex addict, she continued. Hes a predator. But what hes, as it were, [at] the top of the ladder of is a system of harassment and belittling and bullying, and interference.
Later in the interview, when journalist Emily Maitlis pressed Thompson on whether she believed there were others within the film industry that have committed similar acts, the Beauty and the Beast actress dropped this piece of knowledge.
Of course. Many. Maybe not to that degree, she responded. Do they have to all be as bad as him to make it count? Does it only count if you really have done it to loads and loads and loads of women? Or does it count if you do it to one woman, once?
Thompson added, I think the latter.

Yeah I’ve read a lot of articles mentioning the casting couch. Some actresses have mentioned it. During a roast of George Lucas, Carrie Fisher joked, “I hope I slept with you to get the job, because if not, who the hell was that guy?”
Yeah exactly!
Well, start naming them.
Thompson has said of her religious views: "I'm an atheist ... I regard religion with fear and suspicion. It's not enough to say that I don't believe in God. I actually regard the system as distressing: I am offended by some of the things said in the Bible and the Qur'an and I refute them."[
She is politically liberal and a supporter of the Labour Party;
Thompson is also an activist for Palestinians, having been a member of the British-based ENOUGH! coalition that seeks to end the "Israeli occupation of the Gaza Strip and West Bank."
Weinstein wasnt the only one. Every few hours, it seems, some other actor or actress confesses to guilt and remorse over not saying something. That they regret it, they shouldve stepped up, blah blah blah. Emma Watson stated how endemic the problem is in the business. Ok, then WHO ELSE? All the regret in the world doesnt do anybody any good at all.... except the person still withholding the names.
Lets hear it.
C’mon! The trollops needing work in Hollywood are calling up the producers/directors who ‘harassed’ them in the past and lining up jobs, or else!
Sorry to hear that. Atheism..... okay. But pro- Palestinian? Ugh....
