How climate change is affecting travel — and what you can do about it
Washington Post ^ | October 12, 2017 | By Christopher Elliott

When Kimberly Button drove her RV to Glacier National Park in Montana this summer, she expected relief from her muggy home town of Orlando. “We assumed that we’d have mild temperatures,” she says. “We couldn’t have been more wrong.”

Instead, the Rocky Mountains baked in mid-90-degree temperatures. Button’s family camper, which didn’t have air conditioning, felt like a sweatbox. “We were looking at each other,” Button says, “and saying, “How is it this hot in Glacier National Park?”

Earlier this year, Jessica Pociask, an ecologist and the founder of Wank Expeditions, a tour operator, had to cancel a tour to view harp seals in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence because of a lack of ice. “Climate change is having a massive impact on travel,” she says.

Micha Wacquier, who runs a tour operator called Puur Travel, has faced similar challenges with his trips to South Africa’s Kruger National Park.

So how do you travel during a time of extreme weather? There’s nothing you can do to change the climate, at least in the short term, but there are a few steps you can take to ensure that disruptions are kept to a minimum.

The threat of global warming also should influence where you go. Greg Geronemus, the co-chief executive of SmarTours, a tour operator, says more of his clients are asking him about “last chance” destinations that are threatened by climate change.

As a scholar and a gentleman, I must call bullshit on ANYONE buying a camper in Orlando without AC.

"....Climate change is having a massive impact on travel...."

Back in the day, those in the know would say something like, " Warmer weather is driving people to travel to the beaches and lakes to cool off this summer."

Now it's all about "climate change" and "massive impacts" and alarmism.

Why don't they say, "We're experiencing a colder, snowier winter this year, which is good for the ski industry and skiers and those communities who rely on snow runoff into reservoirs for their water supply"?

Instead it's always about climate change and those evil humans who use fossil fuels to enjoy a better standard of living than our cave-dweller ancestors did.

It's all hoopla, hoax and hyperbole from the Left when it comes to changes in the weather.

"Everybody talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it." But the Left sure is trying to do something about it....to get their hands on our wallets.

I don’t think they even make RVs without AC.

#FakeScience

Should have visited the Rocky Mountains in CO then.
Significantly cooler this last summer than usual.
Barely hit 80 degrees on six days or fewer.

I have been up in Montana in late July with temperatures in the upper 90’s. That was in the mid 1980’s. Funny thing about summer and heat - they seem to go together over the entire country.

This is the kind of person that thinks that Canadians live in igloos. It’s the prairies, and it’s SUMMERTIME! Summer means HOT weather!

Some people are to stupid to live!

I get to NYC pretty regularly and when I go I usually make it to Central Park, one of my favorite spots in the city.As you may know there are more than a few rocky outcrops scattered around the park. Those outcrops tend to feature weird looking (weird to *me*,at least) grooves and channels on top.The documentary I saw said that those groves were caused by the glacier slowly moving over the rocks and creating the grooves with rocks embedded in the ice itself.IOW,rock scraping against rock.

That's my understanding at least.
