Trump threatens to target licenses of 'NBC and the Networks' after nuclear arsenal report
Fox News ^ | 10/11/17 | Brooke Singman

President Trump openly threatened Wednesday to go after the licenses of NBC News and the "Networks," as he ratcheted up his complaints about "Fake News."

“With all of the Fake News coming out of NBC and the Networks, at what point is it appropriate to challenge their License? Bad for country!” Trump tweeted.

This was after he challenged the accuracy of an NBC News report that said he sought a “nearly tenfold increase” in the nuclear arsenal during a summer meeting.

“Fake @NBCNews made up a story that I wanted a ‘tenfold’ increase in our U.S. nuclear arsenal. Pure fiction, made up to demean. NBC=CNN!” Trump tweeted Wednesday.

This is one of those things where Trump is laying out a big juicy piece of bait, and the MSM are all going to run tripping over themselves to leap right into his trap.

They are going to be screaming about the 1st Amendment, the sanctity of the free press, fascism, etc., etc., and then somehow he will turn it all back on them and they’ll end up looking like fools.

Actually, we pay for all of the liberal media outside of NPR too. the entire media is liberal now.

The good thing about NPR is that nobody listens to it except mainly die-hard liberals. But I get your point and agree that we should not be funding this or any media with taxes.

Just a question... Could knowingly broadcasting false information which could be detrimental to the effectiveness of a government body under a federally issued broadcast licence be considered treason?

No. Article III, Section 3 of the Constitution provides a strict definition of Treason:

"Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort."

The operative phrases--"levying War," "adhering to their Enemies," and "giving them Aid and Comfort"--are construed very narrowly, and for good reason: the framers had just broken free from a situation where saying anything negative about the King could be considered Treason, and wanted to ensure that wouldn't happen here.

Depending on what a news organization published, there could hypothetically be other criminal charges available (sedition, maybe), but even that is highly unlikely. Publishing false information is typically treated as a civil matter, as libel/slander.

Singman and Fox are getting as bad as the rest. PT did not openly threaten to target their licenses. What he said was “at what point is it appropriate to challenge their License?” That is not a threat but a valid question.

When is the last time that someone was charged and convicted with:

Treason
Sedition or even
violating the Hatch act of 1939

Treason 1952:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/2001/12/17/past-americans-charged-with-treason.html

Tomoya Kawakita, the tormentor who came home, World War II.

Kawakita, born in California, went to Japan in 1939 when he was 18 to visit his grandfather. He stayed, never renouncing his U.S. citizenship. He was employed as an interpreter with a Japanese nickel company. He was never conscripted, but Japanese authorities used him as an interpreter in a prisoner of war camp.

He readily joined in the abuse of American prisoners, “going beyond any conceivable duty of an interpreter,” according to the U.S. Supreme Court. He beat some, pushed another into a cesspool and forced the obviously ill into hard labor.

After the war, he re-registered as a U.S. citizen and returned home. His former victims, who knew him as “Meatball,” spotted him and turned him in, and he was sentenced to death for treason in 1952. President Eisenhower commuted his sentence to life in 1953.

SEDITION: 2010

On 28 March 2010, nine members of the Hutaree militia were arrested and charged with crimes including seditious conspiracy

https://web.archive.org/web/20121003050805/http://www.adl.org/NR/exeres/6636B995-3355-4D28-9FD0-07B7FA2FE153%2CDB7611A2-02CD-43AF-8147-649E26813571%2Cframeless.htm

Charges: A federal grand jury charged all nine Hutaree Militia members arrested with seditious conspiracy, attempting to use weapons of mass destruction (in this case, primarily improvised explosive devices), and using a firearm in relation to a crime of violence. David Brian Stone and David Brian Stone, Jr., were also charged with teaching/demonstrating the use of explosive materials. These two, as well as Joshua Stone, Joshua Claugh, Michael Meeks, Kristopher Sickles, and Jacob Ward were all charged with a second count of the same violation.

Seditious conspiracy is a serious charge, rarely invoked, involving two or more persons conspiring to overthrow, put down, or to destroy by force the government of the United States; or to levy war against the U.S. or oppose by force to prevent the execution of U.S. law or seize property of the U.S.

HATCH act.

Charges issued or alleged, but does not look like there have been convictions.

Me too. I would like to be able to build our own package and pay for what we build. I don’t need Modern Family, BET, sports, or any of the gay shows.

“I’m beginning to wonder if treason exists. ”

Oh it exists alright. The problem is that the favored position Of the American Establishment is the destruction of America. That makes treason a virtue in their eyes.
