Trump visit to UK downgraded to 'working visit' amid threats of mass protests
Donald Trump is set to visit Britain early in 2018 - but for a stripped-down trip that will not include staying with the Queen.
Diplomats are discussing plans for a working visit by the US president that will be shorn of the pomp and flummery of a full-blown State Visit.
And instead of a red carpet event to showcase the special relationship, it is likely to form part of a tour of several countries by Mr Trump.
The downgrading of Mr Trumps first trip as President to the UK follows the huge controversy when Theresa May tried to steal a march on other world leaders by offering a State Visit as guest of the Queen that was intended to take place this summer, breaching a convention that the honour is usually reserved for a presidents second term.
There were threats of boycotts and mass protests when the VIP treatment was announced - with Commons Speaker John Bercow declaring that the President would not be allowed to address the House of Commons.

and kill cops and throw acid on tourists faces and drive cars into people. But as the radical muslim mayor of Londonistan said, you have to expect that as normal in big city.
He should just go to Scotland
Cold...damp....and sarcastic
at least they have warm beer.
Don’t go until they beg for a visit. And don’t talk about it - keep silent!!!!
This disrespect towards our President by the UK is disrespect for our nation, and we the people.
The UK has shown serious disrespect to us since the beginning of our nation. I don’t understand this Stockholm syndrome appeal in the relationship we have with them.
If the UK can’t gain control over their superiority complex, their runny nosed attitude towards our very existence, I don’t believe we should afford them the respect we do.
The Queen’s mother was Scottish too.
The English young people probably aren’t taught that their own greatest generation saved them from Hitler, i.e., leadership of Churchill, Battle of Britain, the RAF, their own forces fighting hard all over the place and winning battles, breaking German radio codes, etc.
We won the Revolution to get away from them. Lets stick to that.
It now appears that “ de-Nazification” was not actually “de-Nazification,” but rather only a shift in targets. Or, at least, that is how Mrs. Merkel understands it.
wait!
Wasn’t one of Obama’s first term gaffes his state visit with the Queen? Lousy gifts, protocol mistakes and IIRC he did not understand how to toast.
Good points.
You’re right.
“”but for a stripped-down trip that will not include staying with the Queen.””
Golly - I never knew the Queen put up house guests over night. How nice of her but how bad not to do so with the Trumps... Strange country - strange people!
“”IIRC he did not understand how to toast””
You’re right - that was pretty embarrassing - FOR US - but I don’t think it registered with him.
He gave the Queen an IPod with HIS SPEECHES on it. When Gordon Brown came to the USA, the Obamas didn’t have a gift for him to take home , so they sent someone down to the White House Gift Shop to buy some cheap plastic Air Force One toys. Obama actually tried to toast the Queen, while the band was playing God Save the Queen. The Obamas were a gaffe factory......mostly ignored by their fawning American Pressitutes.
No more tolerance for the petty BS. Active progressiveness and passive aggessiveness is killing this world
When they see the terms for trade, they will be begging him to come for talks, and giving him some respect when he does.
You mean Richard Spencer? That guy is a Nazi. He SHOULD be refused admission to the UK. For what it's worth, US law is the same - you are asked on immigration forms if you're a Nazi. If you answer yes, you're barred entry.
But this all happened during his firs term didn’t it? Because the article says that our presidents do not do state visits during the second term.
Or was he attending as a former Kenyan subject?? snark.
