MGM is starting to release some of their recorded communications, through this link. https://www.today.com/video/las-vegas-shooting-new-audio-captures-first-shots-fired-1069738563795
NBC didn’t play the complete unedited radio recordings, just the beginning at 9:59.The SWAT team got there 19 minutes later.
The maintenance worker radioed to his superiors and said, “Call the Police.” MGM allowed this employee to interview and provide this information to NBC News exclusively. While they may say “we cannot comment on an ongoing investigation” they are also working on their PR campaign in other ways, like this.
I want to hear the rest of the recorded information that NBC has now, it should reveal if Mandalay employees actually did call the cops a full 5 min. before the shooter started killing people in the crowd.
Those payoff stats are not accurate and that's not even close to how professional gamblers operate.
They play in tournaments for prize money for starters...
Yes, Vegas is filled with criminals and wannabe criminals.
But criminals usually don’t conspire to create random mass murders, because there’s no money in it.
Correct.
Why would Paddock do it?
Wow, that’s interesting.
I actually think the response time of the LVPD was pretty damn good. They appear to have had officers on the scene and apparently on the 32nd floor very quickly considering all of the many chaotic factors in play.
I know that’s not a popular opinion, and I know a lot of people are going to squabble over the 72 minutes before they actually breached the room.
But I think you have to give them the benefit of the doubt at this point, based on the info we have so far. By the time they got to the 32nd floor, the shooting was over, and they were facing a long hallway out of which some nutball had already shot a couple hundred rounds of quasi-automatic gunfire.
Why does anyone do these things? Some reasons are ideological. Some reasons are psychological. Some are unknown.
I dismiss the notion that there has to be a clear-cut reason.
I also listened to “I Don’t Like Mondays” a lot as a kid.
What machines have a 60 percent payoff?
not many
Hotel said a lot of their time stamps were not synced.
I know a little about the subject of gambling machines. Smart players can make money from them. The machines will do little payouts all the time and every now and then they will do a big payout. If you know when it’s time for the big payout you can make money. I see it all the time.
well duhh I guess the LVMPD never heard of DRONES nor their S&R unarmed $10M helicopter could actually fly to the 32nd floor with a sniper within minutes — oohh duuhhhh- Even ISIS sent in small 2 foot wide $200 bucks octocopter drones to knock out the Iraqi army personel, BMP`s, and tanks. wel duuhh I guess these guys don`t watch YOUTUBE Mosul— they appear to be a bunch of ignorant people. We`ve got drones here- but no skyscraper hotels -ain`t LVMPD even got one drone to at least get a video of the 32nd floor? This sounds really really fishy and dicey to me.. a conspiracy.,
What exactly did law enforcement do to earn praise? I have no idea if they could have made a difference, but their actions as reported so far were mostly waiting. Waiting even after the shooter stopped shooting...for somewhere around an hour? They may have had no choice for various reasons, but this pattern of LE not engaging shooters makes me wonder why on earth they need special units and special gear/military gear. It seems the shooter fired as many rounds as he wanted, with not even annoyance from LE, and then he decided when to stop.
According to the story LE is going with now, the security guard was shot before the crowd shooting. LE says the security guard reported what happened on his radio. So LE knew where the shooter was when he started shooting, yet they did not in any way engage him? Once that floor was evacuated they should have been able to at least harass him by firing shots at that room from the hallway- which would have kept him distracted from shooting the innocent people below.
I know I am second guessing the actions of LE and I probably shouldn’t since I am not LE and I wasn’t there. I am using their own reports to try to figure out what happened though. They are telling us LE got there shortly after shooter started firing into crowd...they waited until he quit shooting and then waited for around an hour after he quit shooting before breaching the door and entering the room.
If a SWAT team is not going to engage an active shooter in under an hour- why do these cities need a SWAT team? I remember when they started forming SWAT teams and that was the stated purpose- to have a group that was trained to act quickly in situations like this.
In my area a few years ago a criminal barricaded himself in a house and started shooting, first at random people then police arrived. Small town, small county sheriff’s department- a couple State Police joined them at some point. That was it, no SWAT, so special toys. They engaged that shooter, they stormed the house and took him down. He was heavily armed too but LE took him on. That is what LE used to do everywhere until they got all these special units.
A complex incident with many aspects and moving parts, hard to get it all straight.
Timing?
If you have one watch, you know what time it is. If you have two watches you never really know what time it is, and if you have hundreds of watches you have a hard time knowing what day it is. Logs of events are not that accurate, especially when confusion reigns and a situation is evolving.
The report has been and is that the guard used his radio to report what happened, when he was shot. There should be a time attached to that radio use- I would think. I worked as a security dispatcher 40 years ago and we logged radio use religiously. I think radios now keep track of use on their own too.
The time the shooter began shooting is available from security videos from the venue.
I don’t understand why they can’t figure out if the security guard was shot before or after.
I cannot even imagine that the Mandalay Bay would not contact LE immediately about active shooter...of any sort. That makes no sense. I have heard they do have a lot of armed security (which makes sense, I couldn't believe they would have any that were not armed) but no reports their armed security tried to engage shooter either.
You assume perfect knowledge....... big mistake
To me Schuck makes it clear that he is saying the shooting of the crowd happened after the shooter fired on him and the security guard.
Schuck calmly called for police over his radio. The gunman eventually turned his attention to the country festival taking place below him outside.
“LE says the security guard reported what happened on his radio. So LE knew where the shooter was when he started shooting, yet they did not in any way engage him?”
You skipped a step. If the security guard used his radio to report what happened, then he reported it to others at MGM. He would not have radio communication directly with police (I doubt that anyway). The question is, when did MGM report the location of the shooter to the police?
“They are telling us LE got there shortly after shooter started firing into crowd...they waited until he quit shooting and then waited for around an hour after he quit shooting before breaching the door and entering the room.”
I have not seen this. The reports I have read stated that LE arrived on the 32nd floor shortly after the shooter had already stopped shooting.
An hour to reach his room, or an hour to act after they got to that floor?
Even if the Hotel did not notify LE after the building engineer and security guard made their radio calls LE should have been able to locate the room in less than an hour.
All of these cities have had money pouring in since 9/11 in order to prepare for an event like this. Tons of money has been spent on training, gear, even military type gear and weapons. Someone during all of this had to think of a scenario where someone would be somehow shooting down on a crowd of people. That is a pretty basic sort of attack, Las Vegas is known for having crowds of people.
So knowing they have had all this funding, years to plan and prepare I am not impressed. The Mandalay Bay should have been doing their own planning and preparing as well.
Yet it seems when it actually happened, the LE and the Mandalay Bay were unable to deal with it. Their response was as if no planning and preparing had been done. No one engaged the shooter even to the extent it would have distracted him from shooting at the crowd.
“....nor their S&R unarmed $10M helicopter...”
You got some indication that bird is bulletproof? No way that thing gets in position without taking enough damage to knock it out of the sky and landing on who knows who or what.
