KEY LARGO, Fla. — Authorities say a naked drunk Florida man wanted to know if his .45-caliber gun and shotgun worked, so he fired them into the air.

That only determines that they make noise. I can think of a sure way this nut could use to test at the same time that the gun both makes noise and works as well.
