Schumer Asks Trump to 'Break from the NRA...And Work With Us'

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) told a news conference on Tuesday he's sent a letter to President Trump, asking for a meeting to discuss gun control.

"I have requested of the President to call us together, Democrats and Republicans, to come up with a reasonable solution. Before he was a candidate and marched in lockstep to the NRA, Donald Trump expressed a very reasonable position on gun control," Schumer said.

Schumer described the National Rifle Association, a group that supports Americans' constitutional right to keep and bear arms, as a swamp:

"Look, this is, I mean, this is the swamp. A small, powerful lobby that represents a vast minority, a very small minority of Americans, seems to have a stranglehold on the Republican Party. And, that shouldn't be.

All those years, 1962-1985, they told us they ONLY wanted to register and ban handguns. “Rifles and shotguns will not be affected!”

Then they went after rifles.

Thank you for referencing that article rktman. As usual, please note that the following critique is directed at the article and not at you.

Patriots are reminded that the states have never expressly constitutional delegated to the feds the specific power to regulate civilian-related arms.

"From the accepted doctrine that the United States is a government of delegated powers, it follows that those not expressly granted, or reasonably to be implied from such as are conferred, are reserved to the states, or to the people. To forestall any suggestion to the contrary, the Tenth Amendment was adopted. The same proposition, otherwise stated, is that powers not granted are prohibited [emphasis added].” —United States v. Butler, 1936.

So the first thing that Sen. Schumer needs to do in the name of federal gun relations for ordinary citizens is this imo.

Schumer needs to rally Congress to petition the states for a gun control amendment to the Constitution. And if the states choose to ratify Schumer’s proposed amendment then Congress will have the power to make the kind of gun control laws that Schumer is talking about and Schumer will be a hero.

Otherwise, it is disturbing that federal gun regulations for non-military related arms seem to have started appearing in the books during FDR Administration, FDR and the Congress at that time infamous for making laws which they had no express constitutional authority to make.

The antigun movement really revved up after the JFK assassination. First, it was about banning “mail order murder” as LBJ called it. Then GCA-68 act passed but only because of the RFK & MLK assassinations. Three liberals, BTW.

First handguns...then “assault weapons”. Making mental health a factor in controlling gun ownership is the most insidious attempt yet; it invites Soviet-style arbitrariness over who gets to decide who is mentally ill.

The tide is always coming in...

I was listening to Rush today and realized what a true gift Charles Schumer is. This man is a shameless, arrogant, moron. Like ALL liberals they have to portray that EVERYONE is with them. And why not, they have the megaphone of the MSM and the entertainment media that perpetrates that myth. We get bombarded nightly with the Jimmy Kimmel and his over-emotional drivel.

But they are a gift. They illustrate exactly why Trump is winning. The shamelessness is astounding.

Hmmm....

Amnesty:
Candidate Trump: “They must go back.”
President Trump: “Make them Legal.”

Healthcare:
Candidate Trump: We will get rid of Obamacare and replace it with something really good.
Freedom Caucus/Rand Paul: The replacement is Obamacare Lite, and some say it is actually worse than Obamacare.

Tax Plan:
Candidate Trump: “The middle class deserves a tax break”.
Current Trump Plan: My middle class taxes would nearly double.

Guns:
Candidate Trump: “Don’t worry. Your 2nd Amendment is safe.”
President Trump: “Let’s have a serious discussion about gun control.”
I hope by “serious discussion”, he means exposing the left’s false statistics. I hope he sticks to his Candidate Trump’s guns. Otherwise, he WILL lose his much of his base, and the Globals will be in Oval Office in 2020.

The appropriate response to Schumer is:

“The right to own and bear firearms is guaranteed by the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution.” If you wish to deny or limit a right the Constitution provides for an amendment process. I suggest if you are serious about denying citizens their rights you begin working through the amendment process.”
