Senate Democrats beg Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) not to run for governor of Maine, a move that would rid the Senate of one of its most liberal Republicans.
When Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) heard that Sen. Collins might run for Maine governor in 2018, Heitkamp texted Collins, Dont do it. Heitkamp added, I desperately hope she doesnt run.
Collins departure would serve as another blow to moderates and centrists in the upper chamber of Congress. She was an infamous roadblock against repealing Obamacare this year; Collins vote against the skinny Obamacare repeal bill and opposition to the Graham-Cassidy block grant legislation tanked Obamacare repeal twice.
Collins opposition to Obamacare repeal drew the ire of Maine Republican Gov. Paul LePage, who endorsed the Graham-Cassidy legislation. During the Graham-Cassidy debate, Gov. LePage called on Collins to start paying attention to Maine people.

What are the RATS worried about? Its Maine. If Collins doesnt run for another term, a Democrat is sure to win
Run for governor? Collins shakes & bobs her head when she speaks. This along with her speech pattern sound like she has Parkinson disease. She should retire completely.
“What are the RATS worried about? Its Maine. If Collins doesnt run for another term, a Democrat is sure to win”
Yea, they seem to have short memories as Collins also voted to both get rid of the filibuster and to seat Gorsuch, something no Democrat would dream of.
Traitors of a feather. No doubt they’re pulling for mc-lame and p ryan
But she’s a republican......oh wait a minute.......
She hasn’t done her constituents any good in Maine so why on earth does she think they’d welcome her as the governor. To put her in the governor’s office and to have to listen to that voice would be reason enough to hop across the border to Canada or just leave the state period...I hope the current governor goes all out supporting her opponent if she enters that race.
An independent conservative running against Collins and another few liberals on the Democrat, Green, etc. could stand a chance.
Didn't Trump just give Heidi an on stage appearance with him? Sounds like Heidi is not on board the Trump agenda.
If Collins runs for governor, I will for one of the very few times in my life vote for a write in candidate or the Libertarian.
Uniparty wants uniparty to stay in power.
This just confirms what we already know about Collins. She is a big RINO.
Then she’ll appoint her own successor to her seat, as Frank Murkowski did.
We’ve know for a long time that Collins is a Democrat and this just provides factual proof of it.
A)That’s not true, remember Trump nearly carried Maine, a Republican could hold that Senate seat
B)Her seat is not up for election in 2018, if she were elected Governor she would resign just before taking office and get to appoint her successor
Cant believe anyone would ever vote fir her again. But if she runs for governor, make no mistake she will have the full support of the RNC.
God forbid.
Maine has become more conservative in recent years.
Paul LePage, the most conservative governor in the country, was elected in 2010 and re-elected in 2014. I hope he challenges Sen. Angus King in 2018.
Maine splits it’s electoral college votes. Trump won the Second Congressional district by 10 points. This district.....27,000 square miles....is the largest CD east of the Mississippi and covers 80% of the state.
The First Congressional district is much smaller in area....20% of Maine....but it is much more liberal and more heavily populated. Hillary carried Maine’s popular vote by 2.7% because of the First district (assuming it was an honest vote).
