In the wake of the Aurora Theater shooting, I suggested that private sector establishments ought to be expected to be more concerned about the safety of their customers. In the case of the Aurora Theater, this was magnified by the fact that the theater was a "gun free zone" and did not allow patrons to carry their own firearms as self defense. At the same time, the theater owners themselves couldn't be bothered with taking even the most rudimentary steps against allowing a gunman to casually carry multiple weapons from his car into one of the theater's back doors.
The issue came up again with the Orlando shooting in 2016, when the perpetrator simply walked into a private establishment with a rifle and started shooting. Again, we find ourselves with a situation in which the owners of a private establishment refused to take simple steps such as checking entrances for people with rifles, or employing reasonably well-trained security personnel to be present inside the club.
I wasn't the only one to suggest that maybe, just maybe, private establishments such as the Orlando nightclub and the Aurora Theater may share some responsibility in preventing violence on their own premises.

Checked baggage may have at least forced a confrontation, I mean how many full suitcases worth of guns did he bring up stairs? I heard 400 to 500 lbs.
Here comes luggage inspections at hotel rooms.
It is reported that the shooter had 10 suitcases in his room. There are cameras all over the hotels, but apparently, no one is watching the surveillance tapes. Otherwise, they would have seen this guy carrying all those suitcases to his room over his three-day stay.
The author may be right, but it’s really a moot point. The cost of these security measures will drive most soft targets out of business. This is why nobody wants to host the Olympics anymore. I can see outdoor concert venues disappearing, too.

I would say right at the lobby. Unless people zipline like James Bond into their hotel rooms, not giving them a chance before going up would be the best route.

Baggage inspections for LV hotels would be a huge challenge. The lines and delays are already bad and luggage/metal detector requirements would be worse than at airports. The hotels are tourist attractions themselves and there is a constant movement of people through them, many with wheeled luggage. There is also integral shopping and entertainment venues within the hotels so those would have to be reconfigured also. It will be a huge mess.
Its time to use common sense. In this day and age with Islamic terrorism, Antifa, demented lone wolf leftist lunatics among us allowed to run free, somehow the accumulation of all those arms and ammo in a rented hotel room should not have gone unnoticed.
How is private security going to stop a madman with an automatic weapon firing hundreds of rounds into a crowd of thousands that are fenced into basically a kill box? The nutjob obviously planned this out for a while with the intent of killing sitting ducks.
Hotels will eliminate their windows before they do this.
What is needed is a high tech detection system that does not have a negative effect on guests.
That is one of my issues with airport security—is there no way to look for explosives without inconveniencing passengers?

Well, that might reduce the Muslim presence, but one of the tourist attractions in Vegas is the various shooting ranges, particularly the ones that offer full auto and minigun experiences. A lot of tourists end up coming back to their hotels covered in GSR.
Yeah, like you’d become suspicious seeing someone hauling luggage around a hotel. Also to make that observation, you’d need the same person with a photographic memory watching 24/7.
Also we’d need similar levels of security for every elevated position. Like clock towers, book depositories, etc. Could also have been from an apartment building.
Bottom line is that such security measures are always reactive. Someone really determined to do something like this will always find a way.
