Is it a passing storm or an existential problem? Thats a key question for the NFL as it grapples with the mushrooming controversy of players kneeling in protest during the national anthem, and President Donald Trumps persistent bashing of the kneelers.
A new Yahoo Finance poll suggests the NFL has an enduring problem on its hands. Nearly 62% of 9,056 respondents told us they plan to watch less pro football in response to the anthem controversy. Thirty-six percent said they plan to buy less NFL merchandise, and 32% have chosen not to attend a game they would otherwise have gone to. Those findings all have financial implications for the NFL and its 32 team owners. We wanted to limit our survey, conducted online via SurveyMonkey from Sept. 28-29, to people who patronize the NFL, and exclude people who have an opinion but dont watch football. So we only counted answers from people who describe themselves as pro football fans. Eighty-eight percent of respondents said they watch at least one game per week, with 46% of those saying they watch more than two games.

Time for man cave renovations
They may have to go back to showing the cheerleaders a lot more.
Pro football players increasingly defined in people’s minds as “fat criminals.”
No NFL for me.
None.
Not this year.
Maybe not ever.
Like the Gentle Giant of Ferguson.
Not sure if I’ve ever watched footbal.
Brutal.
Less = zero
Maybe should have checked with your customers before letting a group of idiotic employees destroy your business.
There will be lots of empty seats at all the NFL games and the NFL will lose the big advertisers, beer, trucks, investment instruments, beer, perspiration drugs, beer, and more beer.
All they will be left with is local ads selling used cars, discount furniture and pay day loans.
I hope they keep this stuff up.
It’ll destroy the NFL and MSM sooner.
ESPN talk radio has been unlistenable for years now, it’s so PC.
The disease is spreading. After Robin Lundberg got laid off at ESPN talk radio, he got picked up by WFAN, and he’s spreading his poison there now.
I don’t want to lose all of sports talk radio, but...
Soon the owners will be down on their knees ..but it won’t be to protest.
Swore off football last year — pro, college, prep — when Knothead Kaepernick began pulling his stunt so he could get in his Commie girlfriend’s pants. Won’t even watch my alma mater (Navy), and that’s tough for the Air Force & Army games.
If the flag disrespect bothers one, one will toss the NFL out like old fruit. When one does that there will be no going back. Once you break that addiction, you will realize there are a bazillion ways to enjoy an autumn afternoon that don't involve a gridiron.
Let's start with a name change: from NFL to MFL...
The MILLIONAIRE'S Football League
(The "anti-American, ungrateful, and truly ignorant" descriptive in front of "Millionaires" might be added.)
I watched it when it was my college team playing on local TV or a few times at the University Stadium (I attended Penn State)
Otherwise, I didn’t bother watching much of the NFL, except maybe watch the Superbowl because my friends also were.
