The U.S. needs military officers who are skilled and intellectually curious and predisposed to challenging groupthink. Correspondingly, the Army shouldn't overreact in punishing 2nd Lt. Spenser Rapone for his apparent endorsement of communism.

The Army should require him to have a psychiatric evaluation. And if it is determined that he has mental health issues, he should be relieved of duty, with a medical flag on his 201 file, and placed under inpatient mental health care.
The Army often does this for those with alcoholism.
With such a flag on his file, he cannot be discharged until his health issues have been addressed, which could amount to several years. With infrequent evaluations by a medical board.
And as necessary, his physician may require him to take therapeutic medications. Once he is cleared, he may be discharged and turned over to the VA for follow up care.
WHY IS THIS EVEN A DEBATE???
Court-martial the idiot already! How far weve fallen...
Court martial his butt and give him a dishonorable discharge.
He shouldn't have a career. Can a committed communist truthfully swear to defend the constitution?
Everybody who would want their kid serving in a rifle platoon under this butter bar step forward...you first, Mr. Rogan...
Bust his butt back to absolute buck private or whatever the absolute lowest rank is these days for Army convicts.
Let him serve the rest of his enlistment term in the Supermax.
After his term is finished he gets a dishonorable discharge, but...
Keep his butt in prison for a long time just to keep an eye on him. National security.
Just to state the obvious, gee, if something were to happen...
...that sure would be too bad...
His career is in the toilet and deserves to be.
Communist bastard.... he is probably a freaking coward who want his 15 min of glory.
Water or fire.
Don’t forget weekly drug tests. All reports must be single spaced and at least 10 pages. Make him feel every minute of those five years.
The oath of office for an officer:
I, _____, having been appointed an officer in the Army of the United States, as indicated above in the grade of _____ do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservations or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter; So help me God."
I can see several clauses in that oath that he has violated, which in the military, can warrant court-martial.
...not to mention the umbrella reg of "Conduct Unbecoming an Officer."
Bust him to enlisted and deploy him to a spotting position on the artillery range.
Screw that. Court martial and a Firing squad. Public execution.
They should make an example of him to the highest degree.
Wow..... are you kidding me? You want this dirtbag on the public dole for the rest of his life?
Hang him up and shoot him.
Anyone with a subscription should cancel it immediately.
His career doesn’t need to be hurt. It needs to be ended.
Lt. Rapone needs to be ended by firing squad.
