Sen. John McCain is sending out an SOS to save Puerto Rico.
The Arizona Republican is urging the Trump administration to lift an archaic restriction on foreign ships delivering goods between US ports which he says is forcing the hurricane-battered territory to pay through the nose for desperately needed supplies instead of getting help from nearby islands.
It is unacceptable to force the people of Puerto Rico to pay at least twice as much for food, clean drinking water, supplies and infrastructure due to Jones Act requirements as they work to recover from this disaster, McCain said in a Tuesday letter to Department of Homeland Security Acting Secretary Elaine Duke.
We must treat this emergency relief with urgency every day that business owners are unable to recover their assets and account for lost business, the economy will retreat even further into devastation.
The 1920s-era Jones Act was lifted for both Florida and Texas after they were hit with hurricanes earlier this month, but DHS has so far denied a similar reprieve for Puerto Rico in the wake of Hurricane Maria, which has left many of the islands 3.4 million residents without fuel and water.

McCain is a turd.
Trump should answer McCain who?
Has McCain ever actually accomplished anything in his life (other than incompetently crashing and destroying a number of planes)?
The ocean shipping business is McCain is not much help
McWetStart can just pass a law - if he can get the votes.
Here I diverge with President Trump .
We in Hawaii have long been plagued by the Jones Act
and I too would like to see it done away with . It causes
Hawaii’s cost of living to be by far the highest in the nation . Unnaturally, ridiculously high . The results enslave the people to being unable to keep up with the costs of living no matter how much we/they work . Dump the Jones Act . There is far more in play that the wages of American longshoremen and shipping owners .
The Jones Act needs to be completely repealed. It unnecessarily raises shipping costs. McCain is right for once. Credit where credit is due.

BS. They’ve only had a functioning harbor since this morning; how does he know what they’re paying?
BTW. when a congressman (I think) was asked why that law hadn’t been waived, he replied that PR had not submitted such a request.
McPain is a petty little weasel we all need not to have creating obstacles in the way of our President getting things we want done.
If this guy was really a hero he’d step down, and attend his personal problems without dragging us along with him.
This is just McCainiac busting Trumps chops.
He’s been a senator how long, and Puerto Rico has had how many storms batter them all during his senate career, and he says this only NOW?
He’s just doing it to go after Trump.
John, you cannot die fast enough.
Us: McCain can go jump in the lake.
How did the doctors know what part of MCCain was cancerous?
HE IS CANCER.
McCain should shut up and retire.
He won’t.
He’s dreaming of amnesty for millions of illegal aliens and the death of the Republic.
It’s a mess. They don’t need any more ships. They need people to distribute the goods.
Let’s see, John McCain has been an asshole on repeal and replace, and now he thinks Trump is going to listen to him.
Sorry, bub, your check’s no good. You have nothing in the bank.
Yeah, I guess the FEMA guy explaining this clearly on TV went over McCain’s head.
Would it be unpresidential for Trump to tell McCain to eat !(@* and die? Okay. Okay. He can leave out the eat !@(*# part.
