Yes I know it's in the National Review, just read the article anyway. This is a response to a previous piece of excrement by David French in which he not only points out why French is wrong, but why Trump is right to have engaged on this issue, and the value of having the argument.

Excellent article, despite where it is published. Maybe those who run NR will pay heed.

The other is that unfortunately, a large number of conservative Americans have given up on people like me, on people like David French, and on magazines like National Review.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mostly because you regularly side with illegal aliens and their employers against the citizens and the rule of law.
National Review has long been a mouthpiece for the Cheap Labor Express telling us that amnesty was inevitable and enforcement was impossible.
We love our country and we want to keep it.
Simple as that.
Is this an apology for the NR issues that trashed candidate Trump repeatedly on their covers? And you don’t think it’s fair we stopped reading you? What did you think would happen?
Wasn’t David French the ringleader of the Never Trump issue on NR?
Frerpers: Please don’t refuse to read this article just because its from NR. It fully explains why we need to fight the culture wars. Let’s give credit where credit is due.
After a bit of navel gazing, he does make a succinct case as to why all this matters, and far more than the opinions of some stuffed-shirt pundits who are like dogs barking to hear their own voice. Good article.
They {Trump supporters} hear us talk all day about our principles as if we’re going to solve the problems we have via some kind of discussion among gentlemen.
Meanwhile, the liberal response is “You’re a Nazi, and you shouldn’t be allowed to have a job unless you agree with us.”
We’re trying to win theoretical victories for our principles, but the Left is fighting to win in the real world — and they are coming out on top in the cultural wars with ease. The very fact that we’re even having this debate about the NFL (remember when sports was where you went to get away from politics?) tells you who’s winning.
You want to be a conservative and have run-of-the-mill political beliefs?
Then you’d better work somewhere that’s friendly to conservatives, or you might end up like James Damore at Google, Brandon Eich at Mozilla, or even Curt Schilling at ESPN. That’s if you don’t have some government official really squelching your First Amendment rights by telling you to “bake the cake” or be run out of business.
You want to express an ordinary conservative opinion at college? In Hollywood? Then you’d better think twice or prepare for a river of abuse. Even the Boy Scouts are being systematically destroyed. We may not want to fight a culture war, but the reality is that a culture war is being fought against people like us every day whether we like it or not, and the NFL has chosen to be part of that.
Someone 'gets it'... that's kind of refreshing.... and totally different.
Good article. He suggests the limp-wristed writers at NR are simply jealous of Trump’s platform.
I don't agree. The author seems to not believe the principles and values of individual freedom calling them "theoretical". Were the principles laid down in the Declaration of Independence "theoretical"? No, they were and are truths based on faith God. Those truths that "all men are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness" are as true today as they ever were.
The Right's stronghold is truth based on faith in God. The Left's stronghold is faith in man and his government based on lies and deception. That is why the Left fails every time to win the debate in the forum of ideas. And that is also why the left now tries to force their way with coercion and intimidation becsue they have nothing to stand for except for totalitarian government.
The reason the left has been winning is they have had little focused, sustained opposition - until now. The "real world" is changeable in a millisecond. What changes the real world is faith. It is time for the Right to change the real world to one of individual freedom and opportunity based on that freedom as legally protected by the U.S. Constitution, the Supreme law of the Land. The way we change the real world is by faith in God. Faith and freedom go hand in hand. You cannot win or maintain freedom without faith.
Tell National Review to release the identity of the big donors who are keeping the lights on there. That will explain their positions.
Grassroots conservatives have abandoned NR. NR is an advocacy operation for the interests of its big donors.
Understanding the hatred NR has for President Trump is very simple: trade and immigration.
It’s the same people who fund the GOP establishment to push mass cheap labor immigration and for trade agreements allowing them to deindustrialize the USA in favor of cheaper locations abroad.
The social issues are a sop to try to disingenuously convince American voters to redefine “conservativism” to mean mass cheap labor immigration and deindustrialization of the USA.
Notice how anything that smacks of American nationalism sends the globalist writers of NR into hysterical paroxysms of outrage.
Amen! Trump, unlike 99.9% of the rest of the GOP "leaders", isn't afraid of getting his suit dirty.
Reading NRO is no different than reading the NYT or Compost.
While I’ll do it, I’ll never believe a word of it.
I still can’t forget the 27 article barrage from these scumbags. It broke my heart to see Ed Meese, an acquaintance I like very much join in but at least turned around later. It’s nice to see this guy is coming to understand that actions have consequences but I won’t spit on any of the NRO crowd as they wouldn’t be worthy of it.
The problem at the NR is the problem with academic types everywhere. I am reminded of the intellectuals in Vienna discussing Hitler and the Nazis and what it all really means and inventing reasons why Hitler wasn’t so bad.
Meanwhile across the Danube the Nazis were sharpening their bayonets.
This is the situation we face with the left. They intend to murder 90% of the human race and have said so.
