NEW YORK (AP) Through three weeks, viewership for national telecasts of NFL games is down 11 percent this season compared to 2016, the Nielsen company said on Tuesday.
Nielsen said the games averaged 17.63 million viewers for the first three weeks of last season, and have dipped to 15.77 million this year. The 2017 figures dont include this weeks Monday night game between the Dallas Cowboys and Arizona Cardinals.

For the thirty seconds or so that I listened to Mr. Repeat, he made it clear that he wasn't for any boycotts. Which is it?
It's the hurricane and hurricane recovery! /S
Wait until next week...
The arrogance of the owners and the players is beyond telling...
Rooney wrote a letter claiming the fans “PERCEIVED” the stillerz actions wrong...
Because you know, not doing what you are supposed to do, isn’t a political statement its an attempt to avoid one or some nonsense...
Football has always been the biggest waste of time of any professional sport... calling them 60 minute men is laughable...
Literally the entire game, actual playing is 20 minutes or less... Most folks that go out and play flag football for an hour, are putting in more actual time moving than you see in a 3 hour long professional “game”.
For me, I quit watching ESPN BECASUE of politics! Included in my boycott, is ABC & the SEC Network! The SEC network has hurt most, as my beloved Gators appear on the channel. BTW, all of those channels/networks, are owned by Disney!
AND they’re averaging the first three weeks, so likely weeks 1 and 2 brought up the average from week 3. That’ll only last them through this week, so they’ll only be able to massage that number for so long.
Just coming off a week of doing Neilson radio ratings - made sure I marked that I listened to no radio on Sunday and noted in the remarks section that I will never listen to another NFL football game - for whatever good it does.....
Satan is directing his foot soldiers to take down our NFL.
Consider, too, the factor that some people tuned in to see what the players did during the pregame ceremonies. Also factor in that a substantial number of former NFL fans will avoid merchandise from NFL sponsors whenever there’s a good alternative.
perhaps “The Replacements” should be a documentary.
I just don't watch the NFL because the product SUCKS and I don't appreciate politics being injected into every aspect of our lives, period.
Watching an NFL game used to be an escape from everyday life, even if just for a few hours. Now? Fuhgettaboutit. It's become political/racial/sexist/homophobic and everything else the extreme left rails about in this country.
So I turned it off. Not going back to the National Felons League until two things happen:
1. The NFL gets ALL politics, political commentary and SJW activism out of the game, the commentators, etc.. That means standing for the National Anthem and suspending without pay any player who refuses for the rest of the season. Grow a pair Goodell you spineless POS.
2. Any player arrested & convicted of DUI, Sexual Abuse, Battery, Gun crimes & Domestic Violence gets thrown out of the league on their ass. Period.
The NFL has looked the other way on all the above (and more) for DECADES now. It's high time the NFL cleaned up its act and became the "America's Game" that it proclaims itself to be.
Thanks to USA Today's NFL Player Arrest Database for shining the light on how horribly bad NFL players really are. It's frightening that when you think about how few NFL players there really are and how many crimes they commit compared to the General Population of this country.
The NFL HIDES these guys largely from view in the name of tv ratings and money. Let's hold the NFL accountable for ALL its bad behavior!
Hey, they brought jobs -- didn't they?!
Sling TV Blue still has CNN.
11% so far for 2017
For 2016 there was a 8 percent drop during the 2016 regular season compared to 2015.
Wait until next week!!!
I agree with you about Nascar. Between the chase format and when they redesigned the cars as the “cars of tomorrow”, I lost a great deal of interest.
Beckham didn’t help much during the Eagles/Giants game when he celebrated making a touchdown by crawling on all fours and cocking his leg up to “piss” on the fans.
