DULUTH Minnesota's wolf population jumped 25 percent in the past year, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources said Monday, Sept. 25, in large part to an increasing northern deer herd.
The DNR said its annual survey showed an estimated 2,856 wolves spread among 500 packs, up from 2,278 wolves in 438 packs in the 2015-2016 survey.
Wolf numbers had remained flat or declined some for several years before this year's jump.
DNR officials said the wolf numbers are up because there are more deer in northern Minnesota for them to eat. Higher deer densities after three mild winters allow for more wolves, biologists said. Deer numbers in the wolf range are up about 22 percent over last year.
Deer are the big drivers of the wolf population, regardless of hunting and trapping seasons, unless you are being really extreme in the harvest," said John Erb, DNR wolf research scientist. "When deer numbers go up, wolf numbers go up."

up Mt Hamilton Rd you can surprise big cats if riding a bicycle downhill. Also feral pigs as they tear across the roadway..
Same with Oregon. But for the libtards and their governance, wonderful places.
When I was a kid we traveled up to Backus, MN about 180 north of Minneapolis and along the way we would stop at Deerland or Deer Park. I remember a deer drinking my grape pop from the bottle and laying down on my feet.

Also visited Paul Bunyan Land. He waved at me when I showed up and said my name out loud.

—the deer population should bring on mountain lions, too—
DNR will tell you there are no mountain lions in MN... they respect our borders and stay in South Dakota, Wisconsin and Canada. Don’t know where that one came from that was killed by a car on the edge of the Bemidji city limits a couple years ago!
The deer population in my neighborhood is up thousands of percent.
I expect coyote inroads. We have no wolves to speak of.
We are lousy with deer in GA. You can take 14 per season, 2 per day. We have them running through our front yard.
