Saul Alinskys Rules for Radicals is considered the bible for the left, the Democrat Party playbook. Hillary Clinton wrote her college thesis on Alinskys book. Barack Obama is a disciple of this guide for community organizing. The reality is that the Rules are applicable to any political cause or movement, not just one on the left side of the political spectrum.
I kept hearing about this book and decided to read it for myself. Wearing a tin foil hat with a clove of garlic around my neck, I ventured to the dark side and opened the book. I found Alinskys philosophy and rules quite interesting. I also drew parallels to what is happening now, decades after the book was written. But not in an expected way.
Democrats are adept at using Alinskys rules to further their agenda. Many conservatives bemoan the fact that Republicans are unaware of these tactics or are unwilling to use them. Much like a baseball team not knowing they can bunt or run double plays and then wondering why the other team uses these tactics and wins games.
The rules can easily be used by the right too. In Alinskys own words, In this book we are concerned with how to create mass organizations to seize power and give it to the people. Who else in the GOP might say similar words? Paul Ryan? Mitch McConnell? Mitt Romney? Jeb Bush? None of the above. Only Donald Trump.
Who talks about returning power to the people, rather than maintaining power in the establishment? Or Congress? Or with the deep state? Remember what Trump said during his inaugural address, "We are transferring power from Washington, D.C. and giving it back to you, the people." Out of the Alinsky playbook.

“Alinsky you magnificent bastard, I read your book!”
It’s why the Left hates him so much. He’s using their own tactics against them.
It's one of the reasons, but by no means the only reason.
“Its why the Left hates him so much. Hes using their own tactics against them.”
Exactly... As a student of strategy... I love to watch the battles...
Trump uses many battle strategies in dealing with the Democrats...
I just love the “Suck them in where they have no cover position and then AMBUSH..”
Define your enemy with a simple word picture... the Dem’s have demonized the Republican Presidents for many years now. Their strategy is very Hitler-esque.. i.e. Demonize the Jews
I’ve been saying this for a decade. And getting flamed for it every time. But, people are wishing up finally.
Trumps strategy is now forming for the next presidential election... Let things get worse.. i.e. healthcare...
Show how he tried to fix it and blame it on the Democrat Stalemate...
His slogan will be something like “Working Together.”
George C Scott?😀😁
Excellent. We need more of that.

Maybe incorporate “...THAT’S the Chicago way...”

Alinsky’s tactics are a means to divide and destroy, not to lead, unite and build. Most of Alinsky’s community organization projects failed because they devolved into fighting and factionalism never achieving their claimed goals. Infact I do not believe Alinsky ever had a real goal of doing anything other than sowing divisions, creating anarchy, undermining our society and fomenting the chaos of permanent revolution.
It is good to understand Alinsky and to educate people about the tactics. I am much more doubtful that a lasting, constructive movement can come out of it.
Do we want to rebuild this nation or joint the left in destroying it?
Bump.....
wising up
Great post. I hope it was clear why we do not alinsky.
So here ya go!!
1. Power is not only what you have, but what the enemy thinks you have. Power is derived from 2 main sources money and people. Have-Nots must build power from flesh and blood.
2. Never go outside the expertise of your people. It results in confusion, fear and retreat. Feeling secure adds to the backbone of anyone.
3. Whenever possible, go outside the expertise of the enemy. Look for ways to increase insecurity, anxiety and uncertainty.
4. Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules. If the rule is that every letter gets a reply, send 30,000 letters. You can kill them with this because no one can possibly obey all of their own rules.
5. Ridicule is mans most potent weapon. There is no defense. Its irrational. Its infuriating. It also works as a key pressure point to force the enemy into concessions.
6. A good tactic is one your people enjoy. Theyll keep doing it without urging and come back to do more. Theyre doing their thing, and will even suggest better ones.
7. A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag. Dont become old news.
8. Keep the pressure on. Never let up. Keep trying new things to keep the opposition off balance. As the opposition masters one approach, hit them from the flank with something new.
9. The threat is usually more terrifying than the thing itself. Imagination and ego can dream up many more consequences than any activist.
10. If you push a negative hard enough, it will push through and become a positive. Violence from the other side can win the public to your side because the public sympathizes with the underdog.
11. The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative. Never let the enemy score points because youre caught without a solution to the problem.
12. Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it. Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions.
