A Louisiana lawmaker wants to cut state funding to the NFL's Saints over anthem protests
Circa ^

Louisiana State Rep. Kenny Havard expressed his desire to cut millions in state tax dollars, exemptions and credits allocated to the New Orleans Saints, the NFL and associated groups, the Advocate reported.

His Monday announcement came one day after a group of Saints players protested the national anthem before their Sunday game against the Panthers.

"The very reason (the Saints) have the privilege and opportunity to play professional football while being paid millions is because someone in uniform died protecting their right to do so. It is a disgrace to the men and women of this nation and state who have sacrificed so much."

Rep. Kenny Havard

Havard (R-St. Francisville) didn't specify the amount of state money that would be taken away from the Saints. But if his announcement were to follow through, it would affect team members, coaches and owners. According to a 2015 Forbes report, Saints owner Tom Benson -- who also owns the NBA's New Orleans Pelicans -- was "set to rake in an estimated $392 million from state subsidies through 2025." Can you tell the real news from the fake news? Take the quiz!

The same report also said that, during the Mercedes-Benz Superdome lease, "the state will pay Benson at least $198 million in increased revenue from the Superdome, $142 million in rental payments on property Benson owns, $10 million in bonuses for bringing the Super Bowl to New Orleans and $2.6 million in tax breaks. Benson will get another $40 million from private rent payments to a tower he bought as part of the deal."

"Disrespecting our national anthem and flag in the name of social injustice is the highest form of hypocrisy. Our free society made possible by our fighting men and women has made available free education, free lunch, housing and free healthcare and is now be considered socially unjust," Havard said. "It is time the taxpayers quit subsidizing protest on big boy playgrounds. I believe in the right to protest but, not at a taxpayer subsidized sporting event. Do it on your own time. There are plenty of disabled children, elderly and veterans in this state that would appreciate the money."

More than 200 National Football League players protested on Sunday following President Trump's comments and tweets suggesting that players who protest the anthem should be fired.

OOPS! The NFL will have to change its name. Wouldn’t want to name their league after a NATION, America, would we? How about Nit Flickin’ Louts?

The NFL already ended their non-profit status.

This NFL non-sense, by the knee jerks, may have inadvertently become the catalyst to reduce big government than anything else?working people are fed up with passing our hard earned money away and being given the finger at the same time.

My bad. I saw something on Twitter and it had a quote of Brees trashing Trump. And saying the whole team sat.

FWIW, I would have preferred the president didn’t use the term “SOB.” If one must use curse words then they haven’t explained their point of view clearly, imo.

Brees has always been a left-winger.

Didn't realize that.

“In fact, we should get local and state governments out if the bribing business. Let them attract businesses by being good places to do business!”

Isn’t this just a State/Local manifestation of the way that the folks in Washington DC operate? The only difference is who the “Bribors” and “Bribees” are, and I suspect the “Bribors” are some of the same globalists in both places. As Al Pacino said in the movie “The Scent of a Woman,” “someone needs to take a flamethrower to Haaavaad and the other “business schools” who have given the world these feckless creatures to whom the only thing that matters is money!’
Unfortunately, we still have “sports junkies” who are “all in” for having all of us pay for them to go waste their time and money watching a bunch of overpaid Black’s play a stupid game! Voting for bonds to build “sports venues” should require a 60% or 70% majority to pass.

I sent an email to my senators and the White House to stop subsiding NFL and ALL of them....football, basketball, .....if people knew this was going on...giving money to the rich. I spend almost $500 last year on Pittsburgh. Never again! NFL made a big mistake. Even my husband (X military) is turning the channel and I know that painful for him. I’ll love to see this fact go viral.

“I think Football was supposed to be destroyed by the “concussion thing” — they even got Will Smith to star in a movie about it. But that train was moving too slowly, so the Marxists got this National Anthem thing going as well.

They just want to get rid of anything which makes American culture unique.”

Wow, now there’s a real conflation of unrelated matters. Yessiree, that NFL represents a “uniquely American culture” all right! The culture of Whites paying big bucks to see Blacks trying to kill each other on national TV. I mean if you want to conflate it a little more, you can just “compare” the NFL to Black Lives Matter riots! Because at the end of the day, there is really little difference, except the absence of tear gas and cops. Then again, the referees do carry “guns” and little hankies to throw on the ground. “Football” doesn’t need “the concussion thing,” they are 90% Marxists already so the destruction is coming from within. Bubbye NFL, don’t let the yard marker hit you in the a$$ as you leave the field forever.

“Many/most times, citizens vote to approve stadium funding because they get frightened into thinking their city will be second-rate without a sports team(s). “

Now that’s funny, because if you look at the cities with NFL teams, they are already second-rate with or without the NFL.

Drew Brees disagrees with Donald Trump and silent protest during national anthem
September 24, 2017 at 5:14 PM

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The controversy over President Donald Trump’s remarks directed at the NFL has taken the league by storm since Friday evening.

The NFL, NFLPA and numerous teams, including the Saints, issued statements in the past 48 hours renouncing Trump’s comments, including one where he used the phrase “son of a bitch” to describe players kneeling in protest of social justice issues during the national anthem.

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees understood the attention surrounding the controversy so much so that he started his postgame press conference by addressing Trump’s remarks before taking questions following the Saints’ 34-13 win over the Carolina Panthers.

“I disagree with what the President said and how he said it,” Brees said. “I think it’s very unbecoming of the office of the President of the United States to talk like that, to the great people like that, and, obviously, he’s disappointing a lot of people.”
