NFL commissioner Roger Goodell fired back at President Trump on Saturday for encouraging league owners to remove players who take a knee during the national anthem, saying Trumps divisive comments show an unfortunate lack of respect for the NFL.
The NFL and our players are at our best when we help create a sense of unity in our country and our culture, Goodell said in a statement. There is no better example than the amazing response from our clubs and players to the terrible natural disasters we've experienced over the last month.
Divisive comments like these demonstrate an unfortunate lack of respect for the NFL, our great game and all of our players, and a failure to understand the overwhelming force for good our clubs and players represent in our communities.

I would love for an amateur football league to start up.
Get off of the NFL drug folks! Its killing you! (MeneMeneTekelUpharsin)
Yep Mr Goodell. You’re right.
We disrespect the NFL for tolerating disrespect of our country
Thank You Mr President
President Trump just took a knee.
NFL = Not For Long
And taking a knee, turning your back on the flag and offending millions of people is not divisive. What a leftist POS.
The protesters wore uniforms?
Ha - the kneelers are not ‘divisive ‘?
Boycott the NFL
Enough, this is not about Trump.
Pass it on.
Hyperbole! Goodell has confused a game with respect for the United States.
The citizens of this great nation haven’t. Look at the stands and the ratings.
Goodell is managing the decline of the NFL instead of leading it to be a great game, again..
Soon you will see hats reading “Make the NFL Great Again.”
Goodell has lost his mind.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell needs to take a personal time out and reflect on what he represents and should be doing. Encouraging activism in sports is contrary to people who watch sports to get away from political noise.
Did Goodell plant the seeds of activism by requiring players to wear pink for a month? Where is the month to support prostate cancer? The players are more at risk for prostate cancer than for breast cancer. This could go on and on. So drop it all. It looks ridiculous!
Political activism is destroying sports. Goodell should get out of the business if he does not understand that.

This jamoke talks like a NY Stonewall Gay. Cut his pay. Goodell made 26mil last year.
My favorite football team is the Green Bay Packers, but from the Vince Lombardi era.
The NFL is dead to me. One more part of the America I grew up in that the left has destroyed.

I am a huge fan of professional football. I do not care for the college game (and as a Clemson alum I probably should). But this ridiculous statement is my final straw. BLM and flag disrespect creates a sense of unity? Seriously? I am done with the NFL. Now if only I could get my husband on board with me and cancel our DirecTV NFL package.
The goal is to remove the patriotic followers of American football, and replace it with the internationalist soccer.
Well, the NFL is dead. But there is probably as much if not more CTE in the soccer world. And killing the circus doesn’t mean the mob will go to next show. They might just start paying attention.
