Donald Trump's speech to the United Nations on Tuesday was not just great, it was totally refreshing.
The president's address to the U.N. General Assembly was so perfect it almost made me forget all the horrible speeches his predecessor gave to that corrupt, bloated and anti-American body.
For the first time in eight years the world saw an American president not spending half his time apologizing to the U.N. for our country's past, present and future.
President Obama's U.N. speeches always managed to make it sound like the United States was no different from Iran and North Korea.
He'd say we're going to stop their evil, and we're also going to stop our evil, as if there was a moral equivalency between us and those inhuman hellholes.
On Tuesday President Trump did not pussyfoot around or ignore the obvious threats the rogue regimes of North Korea and Iran pose to a peaceful planet.
He blasted both countries, calling them out for violating "every principle on which the United Nations is based. They respect neither their own citizens nor the sovereign rights of their countries.
"If the righteous many do not confront the wicked few," Trump said, "then evil will triumph. When decent people and nations become bystanders to history, the forces of destruction only gather power and strength."
Trump, being Trump, also said what needed to be said about North Korea's dictator Kim Jong Un and his missile program.
Liberals and the media went ballistic over Trump branding Un as the "Rocket Man."
As usual, the media, which themselves have called Un every name in the book, missed the strengths of Trump's speech and concentrated on what they thought was a politically incorrect gaffe or a presidential goof.
But "Rocket Man" was brilliant. It was a way to mock and insult Un while giving him a public warning that if the U.S. is "forced to defend itself or its allies ... we will have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea."
The president got his U.N. speech 100 percent right. Unlike President Obama, who blamed America first, Trump always puts America first.
He and his speechwriters also deftly explained to his unfriendly audience what he meant by "America First."
He said as president of the United States he will always put his country's interests first, just as each of them would put their country's interests first.
The U.N. rank and file apparently couldn't understand that idea, unfortunately, because most of them routinely put themselves first, not their own countries.
Listening to President Trump speak to the U.N. on Tuesday was a real treat -- like listening to an American Bibi Netanyahu.
Bibi himself recognized the resemblance, which is why the Israeli leader tweeted his praise for Mr. Trump:
"In over 30 years in my experience with the U.N., I never heard a bolder or more courageous speech."
Bibi knows the U.N. and how to address it and its gaggle of bureaucrats and professional America-haters.
When the Israeli leader goes before them he always tells them exactly what they need to hear, but there's one problem --no one ever listens.
It'd be really nice if the U.N. people were listening this time to Trump.
It'd be nice if they'd react positively to his call for the U.N. to do what it was founded to do â?' defend the sovereignty, security and prosperity of all peaceful countries and stand together against rogue nations like North Korea and Iran.
But unfortunately, in the real world probably half of the U.N. people who come to New York are not coming to work for world peace and greater prosperity.
They're coming to see their mistresses and rack up hundreds of unpaid parking tickets.
Isn’t this the guy who couldn’t say one nice thing about Trump during the whole campaign?
Yes Michael, and you did your best to make sure Trump never became president.
You and a lot of others just like you, owe the nation and the people of the United States a massive apology.
By rights, you should simply fade away and let us get on with getting the nation back on track, something you fought fiercely against.
Thought I’d forget? Fat chance!
Reagan smeared Trump at every chance and worked hard to make Hillary the POTUS. Forever a bum.
He wasn’t the worst. But don’t drive people away by attacking them once they have seen that Trump can actually deliver.
At first, Trump also struck me as just a crypto-Dem ego-maniac, and I didn’t like him. I still wish he hadn’t made so many enemies with his personal attacks, but even some of them (Graham, Rubio, etc.) have come around and are supporting most of his initiatives. So let people come around and don’t attack them when they do so.
Trump has proved himself.
We should never reject those who come late to their conclusions about good. Instead, we might simply be grateful that many saw the possibilities and opportunities ahead of time, leaving much up to Divine Providence--as did those brave men and women of 1776.
Michael views of the Presidency as seen through the eyes of the great Patriot, Ronald Reagan, are important. That he should write as he has is significant.
Trump's enemies are many and with large influence on the Constitutionally-illiterate masses, many of whom have been deprived by the mind-controlling Progressives of any education in America's founding principles.
We need every voice who speaks for freedom, not bondage to the cultish ideas of Progressivism!
USA Today doesn’t seem to care for it.....
While the content was excellent, the actual speech should have been written by a professional speech writer. The TelePrompTer script should have contained (pause) prompts at topic transition points.
My favorite child of the Gipper was his daughter Maureen.
She was marvelous. Tragically, skin cancer cut her life short.
And, what a shame that both Patty and Ron are such lefties.
Don’t be so hard on him.’
He’s just slow, real slow to come around to Trump.
Recall that there were a majority of Freepers who recoiled at the thought of Donald Trump running as a GOP candidate. One of those Freepers was me. So I set aside the first weekend in August 2015 to research Donald Trump at Suzzalo Library and I went in pretty much like most others with a prejudice and bias thinking Donald was a lying skunk and I would prove it.
Here’s what I found:

And I found much more, so much more that showed beyond any doubt that this was a really good exceptional man in both competence and character. Sure, he had a few warts, but don’t we all?
Back in August 2015, there were very few Freepers who recognized the real Donald Trump from the monstrous one that the liar media had created. Everyone seemed enamored with Cruz as was I.
So we can be forgiving of those who were fooled but who have since come around.
What is particularly strange about Michael’s conversion is that his father was maligned in the media just as much if not more than Donald Trump. So he should know better than us.
But sometimes it is so hard to overcome a preset image of a person especially when they talk like a New Yawker and we all have preconceived notions of liberals in the Big Apple.
There was also a flurry of images showing Donald smiling in photo ops with Hillary who is truly evil.
And there was nonstop bad press about how Donald had donated to democrats or that he was connected to the Mob.
It was until later that we learned little by little that as a builder, Donald needed to donate strategically to get his permits and that as a builder in NYC it was impossible to avoid contact with the Mob running the trade unions in construction. But we learned that Donald did what he could to avoid impropriety and that in any event, he avoided breaking the law.
His life is amazing.
Back to Michael, let’s welcome him into our fold. He is a great radio talk show host and he has a lot to contribute from history with his views and commentary. I sincerely hope his conversion is or will soon be 100%.
Now if it were liars like Erik Erikson or Evan McMullin, then it would take a miracle for me to offer them a welcome.
“Ward, you shouldn’t be so hard on the Beaver”
lol
What a wonderful, thoughtful post. Well said, Hostage!
Yep!
Sellouts, will be sellouts.
Allowing them to slip back in to curry favor, just leaves them a better position to shove the knife in next time.
Trump’s platform was amazing. He stuck to his tenets, and has since being elected.
Good heavens, what if people had listened to these people? And you know what, many did.
Michael did everything he could to make sure Trump never got to address the U.N.
He’s dead to me.
I am an early and continuous supporter of Trump the candidate.
I think he should not have said destroy North Korea..
Should have said destroy North Korea’s weapons and missile capabilities.
His quoted words imply destroying innocents.
Do not think he meant that.
You say don’t be too hard on him and then point to FReepers who were hard on Trump as well.
Yes, and if you’ll take a good look at many of them, you’ll notice they are nothing but ankle biters here day in and day out. They read reports from CNBSC, MSNBC, CNN, the WP, the NYT, the WSJ, take their comments as the gospel, and then trash Trump non-stop because of it.
I’m tired of allowing people into our camp, who are destroyers.
On some days now, FR looks more like DU than FR, when these idiots get what they think is finally a kill shot.
Enough already. They have proven who they really are. What’s left to be said.
Michael Reagan wanted Hillary Clinton to be president over Trump.
Any questions?
Here’s another post where I addressed my thought to someone else. Some of it won’t apply, but the rest will.
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/3588096/posts?page=18#18
I have always liked Michael but was severely soured and disappointed when he came out against Trump, but so did so many other high-profile Reagan era stalwarts.
I’m just happy to see him positive about Trump.
Michael is the type of guy that will apologize profusely and often when he discovers how wrong he’s been about an issue or person.
Would Michael’s sincere apology change your mind?
